What it does
When installed, the agent approaches a bug the way an experienced debugger would: it reproduces the problem, narrows it to the smallest failing case, forms testable theories and checks them one at a time, then fixes the issue and adds a regression test. It can read error messages and stack traces, follow execution flow, and line up log entries to pinpoint where things failed. It also carries reference notes on debugger setup, common bug patterns, git bisect and quick fixes for frequent errors.
Great for
- Developers stuck on a crash, exception or unexpected behaviour who want a structured investigation
- Teams doing root cause analysis on production-style errors from logs or traces
- Anyone hunting a regression across commits using git bisect
Skip it if
- Production systems without safeguards: the skill's own rules warn against debugging in production without them, and live changes carry risk
- Non-technical users expecting a one-click fix: the output still needs a human to run the code and verify changes
Try asking
- “Here is my Python traceback from a failing script, find the root cause and suggest a fix”
- “This test started failing after a recent merge, help me bisect to find the breaking commit”
- “Analyse these server logs and tell me where the request chain first fails”
- “My Node app crashes on startup, walk me through debugging it with the inspector”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip debugging-wizard.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip debugging-wizard.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Paste the full error message and stack trace rather than a summary so the agent can work from evidence.
- Name the language and runtime version, and say whether the bug reproduces locally or only in one environment.
- Ask the agent to state its hypothesis before changing code, and review the regression test it adds.
