What it does
When you ask the agent to file a bug report, feature request, or other GitHub issue, it first looks at the repository's issue templates and label list, then fills in the template's sections, picks matching labels, writes a concise title, and creates the issue with the GitHub CLI (gh). It then gives you the issue link. Without this skill, an agent would tend to write free-form issues that ignore the project's required structure.
Great for
- Maintainers or contributors who want consistent issues that match the project's templates
- Developers filing bug reports with logs or steps to reproduce from inside a coding session
- Teams that keep labels and templates under .github/ and want the agent to follow them
Skip it if
- Repositories without .github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/ files, since the skill depends on those templates and labels being present
- Situations where you want to review the text before it is posted, because the skill tells the agent not to ask for confirmation when intent is clear and the issue is published immediately
- Private or sensitive bug reports, because the body may include git history, logs, and code snippets that become public if the repository is public
Try asking
- “File a bug report for the authentication timeout I just hit, using this repo's bug template”
- “Open a feature request for dark mode support and label it appropriately”
- “Create a draft issue proposing a refactor of the config loader”
- “Search for existing issues about the crash on startup, then file a new one if none match”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip create-github-issue.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip create-github-issue.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the agent specific details (steps, logs, expected behaviour) so the template's required sections can be filled meaningfully
- Review the repository's templates first if you want to know what the issue will contain, and ask the agent to show the body before posting if you want a check
- Use a clear request such as 'file a bug' so the agent picks the right template
