What it does
When this skill is installed, the agent follows the C++ Core Guidelines (a widely used set of modern C++ best practices) when writing, reviewing, or refactoring C++ code. It favours RAII (tying resource lifetimes to object lifetimes), const and constexpr by default, strong type safety, and smart pointers such as unique_ptr, shared_ptr and weak_ptr instead of raw pointers. The skill is a written guide of rules rather than a tool; it does not run code or change files by itself.
Great for
- C++ developers who want consistent, modern (C++17/20/23) code style from their agent
- Teams reviewing or refactoring legacy C++ toward safer ownership and immutability
- Developers making design choices such as enum class vs enum or raw pointers vs smart pointers
Skip it if
- Projects that use a different style guide or an older C++ standard, since the rules may conflict with local conventions
- Non-C++ work, where the guidance does not apply
Try asking
- “Review this C++ class and suggest changes to follow the C++ Core Guidelines.”
- “Refactor this raw-pointer ownership code to use smart pointers.”
- “Convert these C-style enums to enum class and make constants constexpr where possible.”
- “Write a new C++20 utility class that follows RAII and const-correctness.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the C++ standard you target (for example C++17 or C++20) so the agent picks compatible features.
- Point the agent at specific files or functions, and state whether you want suggestions only or direct edits.
- Check the agent's suggestions against your compiler and project conventions, since the skill only provides guidance.
