What it does

This skill turns the agent into a 'chief of staff' for a long project. Instead of doing everything itself, the agent hands work to subagents (helpers that run in fresh context windows), suggests recurring check-up schedules, and keeps a wiki of markdown pages recording decisions, user preferences and lessons. It also looks for ways to improve the surrounding project environment, such as lint rules and better logs, so future work goes more smoothly.

Great for

  • Developers running a multi-day or multi-session engineering goal who want the agent to keep institutional memory
  • Teams that want decisions and lessons written down as dated, linked pages rather than lost at context compaction
  • People experimenting with multi-agent workflows in Claude Code or similar tools

Skip it if

  • Quick one-off tasks, since the skill asks for subagents, wikis and schedules that add overhead (not useful for small jobs)
  • Projects where the agent should not write files or spawn background work without close supervision, since it expects a persistent wiki folder and background agents
  • Anyone expecting it to change code on its own: the SKILL.md itself contains no executable scripts, but its instructions push the agent to make broad environment changes

Try asking

  • “Pursue this migration goal over the next few weeks and keep a wiki of decisions as we go”
  • “Set up a wiki for this project and agree where it should live before writing anything”
  • “Suggest recurring schedules that would help us reach the release goal”
  • “Review our wiki for contradictions, orphan pages and outdated claims”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 2 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    chief-of-staff.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip chief-of-staff.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip chief-of-staff.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Agree the wiki location with the agent at the start, as the skill requires, and keep it under version control
  • Ask the agent to date every entry and cite commits, so the wiki stays a reliable historical record
  • Use the lint operation periodically to catch stale claims; the skill suggests scheduling it
