What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent how to work on the skill files inside the compound-engineering repository itself. When someone asks it to create a new skill, edit an existing one, review a skill change, or act on reviewer comments about a skill, the agent follows a written authoring standard: state goals and done conditions instead of long lists of cases, keep only lines that change behavior, and validate changes in proportion to their risk. It does not apply to ordinary application code, tests, or scripts.
Great for
- Maintainers of the compound-engineering plugin who write or review skills
- Contributors who want their skill changes to match the repository's authoring standard
- Developers building their own skill libraries who want a worked example of a strict skill-writing procedure
Skip it if
- Writing application code, tests, or build scripts, since the skill says it is scoped to skills/** files and excludes src/, tests/, and scripts/ (it would give the wrong guidance there)
- Someone outside this repository who expects it to describe their own skill format, because it depends on a referenced standard document and project instructions that are not included in these files
Try asking
- “Create a new skill for this repository that handles release notes”
- “Review this pull request that edits skills/ai-review/SKILL.md”
- “Address the bot review comments on my change to a skill reference file”
- “Tighten the wording of this skill's description so it triggers correctly”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Point the agent at the specific file or change you want reviewed so it can pick the right mode (create, edit, review, or respond).
- Make sure the referenced standard document exists in your checkout, since the skill tells the agent to read it before acting.
- Expect it to ask for validation of changes; the skill requires a completion report and a test or an explicit skip reason.
