What it does

Once installed, the agent reviews the team's saved learning documents (stored under a solutions folder in the repo) and checks each one against the current code. It flags documents that are stale, duplicated, superseded, or contradictory, then updates, merges, replaces, or deletes them and prints a per-document report. It is designed not to change product code, and it refuses to edit skill, runbook, or instruction files when a learning conflicts with them.

Great for

  • Teams that keep a documented knowledge base of past fixes and decisions inside a repo and want it kept accurate
  • Engineers doing periodic cleanup of stale or overlapping internal notes
  • Maintainers of the compound engineering workflow who need to audit learnings before trusting them

Skip it if

  • Repos without a solutions folder of learning documents, since there is nothing to audit
  • General refactoring, debugging, or code review, which the description says to avoid unless the learnings store is explicitly the target; a cleanup pass can also delete documents, so review the committed changes before relying on them

Try asking

  • “Refresh the learnings under docs/solutions for the auth module and tell me what is stale”
  • “Check whether any of our saved learnings about the billing code contradict the current implementation”
  • “Audit the solutions store for duplicate or superseded docs and fix what the evidence supports”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Compound RefreshInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    ce-compound-refresh.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip ce-compound-refresh.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip ce-compound-refresh.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Give a scope hint (directory, filename, or keyword) to limit the audit to part of the store
  • Review the committed changes and the printed report, since the skill can delete or rewrite documents and commits its changes
  • If you want a deeper cleanup that can delete accurate docs, say so explicitly so the agent asks you to confirm the intent first
