What it does

Once installed, the agent can act as a job search assistant: it evaluates job posts pasted as a URL or description, scans job portals, generates tailored CVs and PDFs, tracks applications, helps prepare for interviews and drafts outreach emails. The skill itself is only a router; the actual modes, scripts and templates live in the separate career-ops repository, which must be installed locally before anything runs. Your CV and personal data are kept as local files in a user data folder.

Great for

  • Job seekers who want an AI-run pipeline for evaluating and tracking many applications
  • Developers comfortable with Node.js who want to customise the job search tooling
  • People preparing for interviews who want structured practice and debrief notes

Skip it if

  • Users who do not want to install software or run Node.js scripts, since no mode works from this file alone
  • Anyone uneasy about an agent scanning portals or sending outreach on their behalf without review, because automated contact can breach site terms or misrepresent them to employers
  • Users who expect a hosted service: this is a local toolkit that stores personal CV data on the machine

Try asking

  • “Evaluate this job posting and tell me if it fits my CV: https://company.com/jobs/123”
  • “Run the career-ops scan mode and summarize new matches from my portals”
  • “Generate a tailored PDF CV for the latest evaluated role”
  • “Run the career-ops tracker mode and summarise the status of my applications”

Get better results

  • Let the agent complete the first-run setup in AGENTS.md so your CV and profile are in the user data folder before evaluating offers
  • Review any generated outreach or application text yourself before sending it, and check each job portal's terms before enabling scans
  • Open the AI CLI inside the career-ops folder after installing so project context loads correctly
