What it does
This skill gives an AI agent detailed reference guides for BigQuery's built-in machine learning and generative AI SQL functions, such as AI.FORECAST, AI.DETECT_ANOMALIES, AI.KEY_DRIVERS, AI.GENERATE and AI.SEARCH. Once installed, when you ask for a time-series forecast, anomaly check, semantic search or text classification on BigQuery data, the agent writes the correct SQL using these functions instead of guessing their syntax. It also points to guidance on attribution headers for gcloud and API calls.
Great for
- Data analysts who want forecasts or anomaly detection on tables already in BigQuery
- Developers building semantic search, classification or GenAI summarization into BigQuery SQL
- Teams evaluating BigQuery ML models or measuring the causal impact of an event
Skip it if
- General BigQuery dataset, table or job administration, which the skill explicitly excludes; use the separate BigQuery Basics skill instead
- Projects without a BigQuery environment or Vertex AI access, since the functions run against paid cloud resources and will fail or incur cost without them
- Situations where results must be exact or auditable, because generative functions produce probabilistic output that needs human review
Try asking
- “Forecast the next 30 days of daily sales in my BigQuery table using AI.FORECAST”
- “Find which dimensions are the key drivers of the drop in conversion rate last month”
- “Classify customer support tickets in this table into categories with AI.CLASSIFY”
- “Detect anomalies in my server metrics table and flag outliers”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip bigquery-ai-ml.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip bigquery-ai-ml.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the table, columns and the question you want answered so the agent picks the right AI function
- Review generated SQL and check the cost estimate before running it on large tables
- Ask the agent to read the relevant reference file first if you need exact parameter options
