What it does

Once installed, the agent knows how to talk to Google Cloud's Skill Registry, a hosted catalog where agent skills can be stored and searched. The agent can look up skills by keyword, list them, inspect their revision history, upload new skills, update or permanently delete existing ones, and check on long-running operations. It can also scaffold a new skill folder on your local machine. It runs bundled Python scripts that call Google Cloud APIs using your own credentials.

Great for

  • Developers building agents on Google Cloud who want a shared place to publish and discover skills
  • Platform teams managing a company's internal catalog of agent capabilities
  • Anyone who already uses gcloud and has a Google Cloud project with the Agent Platform enabled

Skip it if

  • People without a Google Cloud project: the scripts need GCP_PROJECT_ID, GCP_LOCATION and valid credentials, so nothing works without them.
  • Routine use on shared or production projects without review: the skill can permanently delete registry skills and upload folder contents, which can be irreversible and may expose files to the registry.
  • Non-technical users who just want to write or edit documents: this is a cloud administration tool, not a general writing aid.

Try asking

  • “Search the skill registry for skills related to 'invoice processing' and show the top 5 results.”
  • “Upload the skill folder in ./my-skill to the registry under the ID my-skill.”
  • “Show the revision history for a skill named data-cleaner.”
  • “Check whether a long-running registry operation has finished.”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Skill Registry (Google Cloud)Install, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 9 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    agent-platform-skill-registry.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip agent-platform-skill-registry.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip agent-platform-skill-registry.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the validation script first and confirm GCP_PROJECT_ID and GCP_LOCATION are set correctly before any upload or delete.
  • Use a test project and a test skill ID before touching production skills, since deletion is permanent.
  • Review the contents of any folder before uploading, because the upload script zips every file in it and sends the data to Google Cloud.
