What it does

This skill teaches the agent to set up and run agent-eval, a small command-line tool that runs several AI coding assistants on the same task and scores them. You define a task in a YAML file with a starting commit, a prompt and judge checks such as running pytest or grep, then the tool records whether each agent passed, what it cost, how long it took, and how consistent it was across repeated runs. Each run happens in its own git worktree so runs do not interfere with each other or the base repository.

Great for

  • Developers choosing between coding agents or models for their own codebase
  • Teams that want data before adopting a new AI coding tool or upgrading to a new model version
  • Maintainers who want to catch regressions in agent performance over time

Skip it if

  • Quick one-off coding help, since setting up tasks and repeated runs is heavy for simple needs
  • Anyone expecting a turnkey benchmark: the skill itself only explains the workflow and the tool must be installed separately from the linked repository
  • Running it on sensitive or production repositories without review, because the agents and judge commands execute code and may incur API costs

Try asking

  • “Compare Claude Code and Aider on a task that adds retry logic to my HTTP client, running each three times”
  • “Write a YAML task definition for a bug fix in my Python project, pinned to a specific commit”
  • “Generate a comparison table of pass rate, cost and time for my last three agent runs”
  • “Help me design a set of five realistic tasks to evaluate coding agents on my team's codebase”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Agent Eval (コーディングエージェント比較)Install, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    agent-eval.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip agent-eval.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip agent-eval.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Start with three to five tasks drawn from real work rather than toy examples, and run each agent at least three times because results vary
  • Include at least one deterministic judge such as tests or a build in every task, and treat LLM judges as added noise rather than ground truth
  • Track cost alongside pass rate, since a much more expensive agent may not be the right choice, and pin commits in task files for reproducibility
