Slide-by-slide narrative template

A storytelling template that moves the audience from the current situation to your recommendation, slide by slide, with action titles and evidence.

You'll need: A recommendation or big idea you want the audience to accept
  1. 1Generate the narrative

The structure is Situation → Complication → Resolution, alternating between 'what is' and 'what could be' to build tension before the recommendation. It works for strategy updates, change proposals and keynote talks.

Example input

Proposal to move from annual to monthly planning; leadership believes annual planning gives stability.

Example output

| Situation | "Annual planning gave us a clear direction for a decade" | Timeline of past plans | "But look at what happened to those plans after March." | | Complication | "Three of our last four plans were rewritten by Q2" | Plan vs actual chart | "Imagine if we planned for that instead of against it." | | Call to action | "Approve a two-quarter pilot of monthly planning starting 1 January" | Pilot scope and decision date | — |

Troubleshooting

  • Complication slides feel negative: pair each with a 'what could be' slide so the tension builds toward the solution.

Known limitations

  • A strong narrative can't compensate for weak evidence; the template flags gaps but can't fill them.
