Shot list to video prompts workflow

Convert a rough shot list into a numbered batch of consistent, generation-ready video prompts, with continuity carried through every shot.

You'll need: A chat model · A rough shot list (even bullet points)

Fill in your details

Values are inserted into every prompt below. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

5 field(s) left — unfilled variables stay as {{placeholders}}.

  1. 1Normalise the shot list

Run in a chat model. This fills gaps (camera, lighting, duration) before any prompts are written.

Here is my rough shot list for a {{project_type}}:
    """{{shot_list}}"""
Global style: {{global_style}}. Aspect ratio: {{aspect_ratio}}.
    Recurring characters, props and locations: {{continuity_notes}}

Turn it into a table: Shot # | Shot size | Camera move (exactly one) | Subject and action (one action) | Location | Lighting | Duration (2-8 s) | Risk notes.
Flag shots that are hard to generate (hands with objects, text, crowds, fast action) and suggest a simpler version.
  2. 2Write the prompts

Paste the approved table back. Each prompt repeats the same continuity descriptions and style line word for word.

For each shot in the table, write a generation-ready video prompt in this order: shot size and camera move; subject and action (insert the exact continuity description for any recurring character, prop or location); setting; lighting; style: {{global_style}}; duration; aspect ratio {{aspect_ratio}}; "Avoid:" line with 4-6 risks specific to that shot. Number them to match the table. Present tense, concrete nouns, no on-screen text.
  3. 3Generate and log

Generate 2-4 takes per shot. Log shot number, model, settings, seed (if shown) and the take you chose, so reshoots match.

Example input

60-second short: old man wakes, makes tea, looks at a photo, goes outside into snow; arthouse style.

Example output

Shot 2: Medium shot, static camera. A man in his late 70s with a white beard and a brown cardigan lifts a blue kettle from a small stove in a small stone kitchen; steam curls up. Lighting: pale morning light from a small window on the left. Style: quiet European arthouse, soft natural light, muted palette, 35mm grain. Duration 5 seconds, aspect ratio 16:9. Avoid: hand and kettle merging, extra fingers, text, flicker, face changing, extra people.

Troubleshooting

  • Prompts drift in style: ask the model to quote the style line exactly and check before generating.
  • Too many RISK shots: simplify the story beat or plan real footage or stills for those moments.

Known limitations

  • Consistent text descriptions help but don't guarantee the same face or location across shots; use reference images where supported.
