Consistent character workflow

Keep the same character recognisable across many AI video shots with a character bible, a reference sheet and locked prompt blocks.

You'll need: An image model for reference sheets · A video tool that accepts reference or start-frame images
  1. 1Write the character bible

Use a chat model. The locked block is the most important output: it gets pasted unchanged into every prompt.

4 steps and 3 ready-to-use prompts are in the full version

Example input

Mara, early 30s marine biologist, faded orange jacket and grey beanie; three coastal scenes.

Example output

Locked block: woman in her early 30s, slim athletic build, oval face, light olive skin, shoulder-length dark brown wavy hair under a grey knit beanie, hazel eyes, small scar through left eyebrow, faded orange waterproof jacket, navy cargo trousers, black rubber boots Scene 2: [locked block], kneels beside a rock pool and leans in to peer at a starfish, rocky shoreline at low tide, overcast soft light, slow push-in from the side at low angle, 5 seconds.

Troubleshooting

  • Face changes between shots: use one reference image consistently and avoid extreme angles or tiny faces in wide shots.
  • Clothing colours shift under different lighting: name colours precisely and avoid strongly coloured lighting.
  • Character looks different in different tools: stay within one tool for a project.

Known limitations

  • No current method guarantees identity consistency; expect to regenerate shots.
  • Do not use a real person's likeness without their consent, and check each tool's rules on public figures.
