How to use the Relationship Structure Analyst agent skill (ljg-relationship)

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The ljg-relationship skill is an agent skill: a set of written instructions (a SKILL.md file) that changes how an AI agent handles a specific task. When you bring it a relationship problem with a boss, partner, family member or friend, the agent asks you questions step by step instead of giving quick advice, then saves a written summary. This guide explains what it does, how to install it, how to trigger it, and what to watch for.

Quick start

  1. 1Download the ZIP. Download the ljg-relationship skill ZIP from this page and unzip it so you have a folder containing SKILL.md.
  2. 2Place the folder. Move the folder into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. Alternatively, upload it in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
  3. 3Check the requirements. Make sure your agent runtime reads SKILL.md files, can write to ~/Documents/notes/, and can run the date command.
  4. 4Start with a trigger phrase. Open a conversation and write a request such as 关系分析 or describe a specific relationship problem.
  5. 5Answer the questions honestly. Tell one concrete story and respond to each question. The agent asks rather than advises, so your answers drive the analysis.
  6. 6Review the diagrams. After each round, look at the ASCII diagram and note which layer the agent flags as most important or most surprising.
  7. 7Find your saved file. At the end, note the file path the agent reports in ~/Documents/notes/ and reread it later.

What the ljg-relationship skill makes the agent do

Once installed, the agent stops giving quick advice about a relationship problem and instead asks questions step by step. It checks five structural areas: exchange, power, boundaries, life stage, and personal story. When a pattern keeps repeating, it also looks at deeper psychological patterns such as transference and resistance.

After each step, the agent draws an ASCII diagram of the relationship structure so you can see the analysis as well as hear it. At the end it writes a markdown summary file to a notes folder on your computer.

  • Asks questions rather than telling you what to do
  • Checks five structural layers: exchange, power, boundaries, life stage, narrative
  • Adds a pattern layer (transference, unconscious patterns, resistance) when a problem repeats
  • Draws an ASCII diagram after each round
  • Saves a markdown summary to ~/Documents/notes/

Install the ljg-relationship skill

Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. The skill is a folder containing SKILL.md. You can install it in one of two places, depending on how you use your agent.

For a personal setup, place the unzipped folder inside ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, place it inside that project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project install: the project's .claude/skills/ folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload

Trigger the skill with natural requests

You start the analysis by describing your situation. The source instructions name specific trigger phrases, so using one of them makes it clear what you want. You can also describe a specific relationship problem without a trigger phrase.

The skill's usage examples show a slash-style invocation and a plain phrase. Both forms appear in the source.

  • "关系分析" (relationship analysis)
  • "分析关系" (analyse the relationship)
  • "relationship" or "人际关系" (interpersonal relationship)
  • /ljg-relationship followed by your situation, for example: 我和老板的关系最近很紧张 (my relationship with my boss has been tense lately)
  • 关系分析 followed by a repeating conflict, for example: 我跟合伙人总是在同一个问题上吵架 (I keep arguing with my partner about the same issue)
/ljg-relationship 我和老板的关系最近很紧张

What a session looks like

The agent first asks what you most want to understand: how to handle this specific event, or why you keep ending up in the same place. Its answer decides the main line of questions. If you are not sure, it starts with the five structural layers and watches for repeating patterns.

It then asks you to tell one specific story, with details about who said what and how you felt. It probes only the layers most likely to matter, and after each probe it shows a diagram of the current scan. It may point out moments when you paused or changed the subject. At the end it gives a short core insight, one question to think about for the coming week, and a note on whether professional help may be worth considering.

  • Opening question: this specific event, or why it keeps happening
  • Tell one concrete story with details
  • Questions for each layer, with a diagram after each probe
  • Pattern questions if the problem repeats
  • Closing: a restated insight, one open question, and a boundary note

Read the output file

At the end of the session the agent runs the date command to get a timestamp, then writes a markdown file named in the form {timestamp}--关系分析-{keyword}__relationship.md into ~/Documents/notes/. It then reports the file path to you.

The file has front matter with a title, date, tag and identifier, followed by sections for background, the five-layer diagnosis, pattern findings, the relationship diagram, the core insight and the open question. You can reopen it later to reread the analysis.

  • File location: ~/Documents/notes/
  • File name pattern: timestamp, topic keyword, __relationship.md
  • Sections: background, five layers, pattern findings, diagram, core insight, open question
date +%Y%m%dT%H%M%S

What people use it for

  • Working through recurring friction with a boss, where the same disagreement keeps returning
  • Understanding a repeated argument with a business partner about the same topic
  • Reflecting on a pattern across several family relationships
  • Keeping a dated written record of a relationship analysis to reread weeks later
  • Preparing your own thinking before a difficult conversation, without asking the agent for a script

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the ljg-relationship skill?

Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. Place the folder in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps you can upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

What do I need to run ljg-relationship?

You need a SKILL.md-compatible agent runtime with file write access to ~/Documents/notes/, and a shell that can run the date command to create a timestamp. The skill runs scripts and does not use the network.

Is ljg-relationship free?

The skill is published under the MIT licence. This page does not list prices, so check the licence file in the source repository for the terms.

Does the skill give relationship advice?

No. The skill is written to avoid advice and only asks questions. If you want concrete advice or scripts for a conversation, pick a different tool.

Can it help in an emergency or abusive situation?

No. It is a reflective dialogue tool, not a crisis or safety service, and it may not give timely practical help. It only suggests professional help at the end, so it is not a substitute for a therapist, especially for trauma, self-harm concerns or acute distress.

What is the difference between this and a general chatbot conversation about relationships?

This skill follows a fixed structure: it checks five layers, adds a psychological pattern layer when problems repeat, draws a diagram after each step, and saves a markdown file. A general conversation has no set method or saved record.

Our verdict

Use ljg-relationship if you keep meeting the same conflict in different relationships and prefer being asked good questions to being told what to do, and if you want a written record to reread. Pick something else if you need practical advice or scripts, or if you are in an emergency, an abusive situation or acute distress; in those cases, reach out to people or services who can act directly.
