How to use the Power Automate Tenant Monitoring agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The Power Automate Tenant Monitoring skill is an agent skill that teaches an AI agent how to read tenant-wide Power Automate health data from the FlowStudio MCP server's cached store. Once it is installed and the FlowStudio MCP server is connected, you can ask the agent questions such as how many flows are failing or which makers appear inactive, and it will answer from aggregated data. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to trigger it and what it needs before you start.

Quick start

  1. 1Confirm your subscription. Check that you have a FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription, since the store tools will fail without it.
  2. 2Connect the FlowStudio MCP server. Make sure the FlowStudio MCP server is connected to your agent so the store_* tools and tool_search are available.
  3. 3Download the ZIP. Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. The folder contains SKILL.md.
  4. 4Place the skill folder. Copy the folder into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder.
  5. 5Or upload in the Claude apps. Alternatively, go to Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps and upload the ZIP.
  6. 6Ask a tenant-wide question. Request an aggregated view, such as failure counts or inactive makers, in plain language.
  7. 7Check data freshness. If results look empty or old, verify the flow is monitored and that its scanned date is recent.

What is an agent skill and what does this one do?

An agent skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file that gives an AI agent instructions for a specific job. This skill, flowstudio-power-automate-monitoring, covers monitoring across a whole organisation. The agent learns which FlowStudio tools to call, how to read their responses, and how to build summaries from them.

The skill is meant for aggregated views only. It can report failure counts, flows with high failure rates, ownership of flows and apps, inactive makers and critical flows, and it can produce health and compliance summaries. For a single flow, live run control or root-cause debugging, the skill points the agent to other FlowStudio skills.

  • Count failing flows and list those with high failure rates
  • Show run-health trends over a time window such as 30 days
  • Inventory makers, apps and connections across the tenant
  • Find inactive owners and check when flows were last scanned
  • Produce health and compliance summaries

Check the requirements before you install

The skill needs a FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription and a FlowStudio MCP server connected to your agent. The store tools (the store_* tools) and tool_search come from that server. Without a subscription, the store tools return 403 or 404 errors.

The skill does not run scripts. It does use the network, because it calls the FlowStudio MCP server.

  • FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription
  • FlowStudio MCP server connected to the agent
  • Runs scripts: no
  • Uses network: yes

Install the skill from the ZIP download

Download the ZIP for this skill from this page and unzip it. The package contains SKILL.md. Place the unzipped folder in one of two locations, depending on how you want to use it.

For a personal install across projects, put it in ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, put it in that project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal: ~/.claude/skills/flowstudio-power-automate-monitoring/
  • Project: .claude/skills/flowstudio-power-automate-monitoring/ inside your project
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP

Trigger the skill with natural requests

You do not need a special command. Ask the agent a monitoring question in plain language and it will decide whether this skill applies. Ask about the whole tenant or an aggregated view, not one flow.

Good requests name a tenant-wide measure, such as failure rate, owners, inactive makers or a health report. If you ask about one flow's error details or want to restart a run, the agent should use a different skill.

  • How many flows are failing across the tenant right now?
  • Which monitored flows have the highest failure rate over the last 30 days?
  • Who owns the flows and apps that fail most often?
  • Which makers look inactive, and which of their flows are marked critical?
  • Give me a health and compliance summary of Power Automate for this tenant.

Understand what the data can and cannot tell you

The skill reads cached data. FlowStudio scans the Power Automate API daily for each subscriber, so the agent's answers reflect the last scan, not live state. Data is not real-time.

Flows marked monitor: true get per-run detail. Other flows get only metadata and aggregate run statistics. If a run-history or summary query comes back empty, check that the flow is monitored and that its scanned date is recent. Also note that the monitoring skill does not start or stop flows; that is done with live tools from another bundle.

  • Data is refreshed by a daily scan, not in real time
  • Per-run history needs monitor: true on the flow
  • Use the scanned field to judge how fresh a record is

Safety notes

The skill makes network calls to the FlowStudio MCP server and reads tenant data, including owners, makers and flow definitions. Review who has access to the agent and the FlowStudio account before you grant access to governance data.

The skill includes write-capable tools such as update_store_flow, which can set the monitor flag, notification rules and tags. Ask the agent to confirm before it changes monitoring settings.

  • Network use: yes, to the FlowStudio MCP server
  • Scripts: none included
  • Treat owner and maker data as sensitive

What people use it for

  • Counting failing flows across all environments each morning
  • Ranking monitored flows by failure rate over a 30-day window
  • Listing flows and apps by owner to plan governance follow-up
  • Finding makers with no recent activity and reviewing their critical flows
  • Producing a periodic health and compliance summary for leadership

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the Power Automate monitoring agent skill?

Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it. Put the folder in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder, or upload the ZIP under Settings → Capabilities → Skills in the Claude apps.

What do I need to use this skill?

You need a FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription and the FlowStudio MCP server connected to your agent. Without a subscription, store tools return 403 or 404 errors.

Is the Power Automate monitoring skill free?

The source does not state pricing for this skill. It requires a FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription, and pricing details are on the FlowStudio pricing page at mcp.flowstudio.app/pricing.

What license is the skill released under?

The skill is listed under the MIT licence in the github/awesome-copilot repository.

Does this skill show real-time data?

No. FlowStudio scans the Power Automate API daily and caches the results, so answers reflect the most recent scan. Check the scanned field to see how fresh a record is.

Can this skill debug a single failing flow?

No. It is for aggregated tenant views only. For one flow, live run control or root-cause debugging, the skill directs the agent to other FlowStudio skills such as flowstudio-power-automate-debug.

Our verdict

This skill suits IT and platform admins, teams running many business flows, and governance staff who need tenant-wide failure rates, owner inventories and inactive-maker reports. It is a poor fit if you lack a FlowStudio for Teams or MCP Pro+ subscription, need real-time data, or want to debug or resubmit a single flow, for which the live tools in other FlowStudio skills are the right choice.
