How to use the Deck Style Cloning agent skill (style-clone)
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The style-clone skill lets an AI agent in the OpenMAIC platform write new course pages that look like they were made in a deck you have already imported. It keeps the original palette, fonts, backgrounds and page layouts, and rewrites only the text. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for it, and where its limits are.
Quick start
- 1Download the ZIP. Get the style-clone skill ZIP from this page. It contains SKILL.md and outline-constraints.json.
- 2Install the skill. Unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload it under Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills.
- 3Check the platform and companion skills. Confirm that OpenMAIC's stage tools are available and that the companion skills are installed.
- 4Provide the deck. Make sure a deck is already imported into the stage, or give the agent a .pptx file to import.
- 5Ask for the new course. Describe the topic, number of pages and the look you want, such as the imported deck's design.
- 6Review the result. Check that the new pages match the deck's colours, fonts and layouts, and that the text is correct.
What the style-clone skill makes the agent do
An agent skill is a folder of instructions that an AI agent loads when a task matches its description. style-clone covers one job: teaching new material in the design of a deck someone else made. The skill treats the imported deck as a library of layouts rather than as content to keep.
For each new page, the agent picks the source layout that fits, duplicates that page, and rewrites the copy's text element by element. Because the agent copies the element structure instead of describing the style, the colours, fonts and page division carry over. The learner sees one consistent course.
- Works on decks already imported into a stage, or on a .pptx file that still needs importing
- Keeps the original design by copying pages, not by generating new ones from a description
- Uses imported pages only as templates; the new course is made of copies
Install the style-clone skill
Download the style-clone ZIP from this page. The skill folder includes SKILL.md and outline-constraints.json. Install it in one of two ways.
For a personal install, unzip the folder into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. Alternatively, in the Claude apps, open Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the skill there.
- Personal: ~/.claude/skills/
- Single project: .claude/skills/ inside the project folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills

The skill needs the OpenMAIC platform with its stage tools available to the agent. These are list_scenes, import_pptx, duplicate_scene, read_stage, patch_stage, add_element and delete_element. You also need either a deck already imported into a stage or a .pptx file to import.
The skill relies on several companion skills: page-clone, slide-dsl, slide-craft, stage-design, curriculum-planner and pro-editing. Install them alongside style-clone, since the workflow depends on them.
- OpenMAIC platform with the stage tools listed above
- A deck already imported, or a .pptx file to import
- Companion skills: page-clone, slide-dsl, slide-craft, stage-design, curriculum-planner, pro-editing
How to trigger style-clone with natural requests
You do not need a special command. Describe what you want in plain language, and say that the new material should match the deck's design. The skill is meant for requests where the session has an imported deck and the goal is new teaching content in that deck's look.
The skill is not the right choice for a straight import that must match the original file slide for slide. That job belongs to pptx-import. It also does not copy how a teacher speaks. That is teacher-style-clone, and the two can be combined: one supplies the voice, the other the look.
- "Using the imported deck's design, write a 6-page lesson on photosynthesis."
- "Build a course on basic statistics that looks like the deck I just imported."
- "Import this .pptx and create new lesson pages in its style."
- Avoid: "Import this deck exactly as it is" (use pptx-import instead).
Safety notes and limits
The skill does not run scripts and does not use the network, according to its listing. All of its work happens through the OpenMAIC stage tools.
The skill copies a creator's visual design closely. Do not use it to reuse another creator's deck commercially or without permission. Use your own decks or ones you have the right to adapt.
- Runs scripts: no
- Uses network: no
- Check the rights to the source deck before reusing its design
Tips for better results
Import or confirm the deck first, then ask for the new course in one request. The agent works best when it can move straight from the source deck to the copied pages.
Keep the source pages in the deck until the new course is finished. The agent needs them as templates, and the decision to remove them can wait until you review the result together.
- Name the number of pages and the topic in your request
- Choose a deck with clear, reusable layouts such as a cover, section divider and content page
- Keep the source pages until every planned page is done
What people use it for
- Turning a well-designed deck into a multi-page lesson series on a new subject
- Building a consistent course for a team of teachers from one reference deck
- Creating new lesson pages for an OpenMAIC stage that already holds a branded deck
Frequently asked questions
Is the style-clone skill free?
This page does not state a price or licence terms for the skill beyond the MIT licence listed for the source repository. Check the licence file in the repository before you use or redistribute it.
What do I need to use style-clone?
You need the OpenMAIC platform with its stage tools, a deck already imported or a .pptx file to import, and the companion skills page-clone, slide-dsl, slide-craft, stage-design, curriculum-planner and pro-editing.
How do I install the style-clone skill?
Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into .claude/skills/ inside a project. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload it under Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills.
Does style-clone copy a teacher's voice too?
No. It only copies the visual look. For a teacher's speaking style taken from a recording or handout, use teacher-style-clone. The two skills can be used together.
What is the difference between style-clone and pptx-import?
style-clone writes new content in an imported deck's design. pptx-import keeps the file slide for slide with no new content. Pick style-clone for new material and pptx-import for an exact copy.
Why are the new pages not identical to the original deck?
The skill copies each layout and then rewrites its text, so the design is kept while the content is new. If you need the original slides unchanged, use pptx-import instead.

Our verdict
Use style-clone if you have a well-designed deck and want new lesson pages in its look, inside OpenMAIC. Pick pptx-import if you need the original file reproduced exactly, or teacher-style-clone if your goal is to copy how a teacher speaks.
