How to use the Ad Creative Generator agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The Ad Creative skill is a set of instructions and reference files that an AI agent loads so it can work as a performance ad creative strategist. It is built for generating and iterating headlines, descriptions, primary text and full ad variations for paid platforms. This guide explains what the skill changes in the agent's behaviour, how to install it, how to ask for work in plain language, and what to check before you trust the output.
Quick start
- 1Download the ZIP. Get the skill ZIP from the directory page and unzip it on your computer.
- 2Place the folder. Copy the unzipped folder into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder.
- 3Or upload in the Claude apps. In the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the ZIP.
- 4Describe the ad task. Name the platform, format, product, audience and any performance data you have.
- 5Answer the context questions. The agent asks for missing details such as offer, awareness stage and compliance rules.
- 6Check limits and grounding. Confirm the copy fits platform character limits and, for batches, that each concept traces to a real source.
What the Ad Creative skill makes the agent do
Once the skill is installed, the agent drafts ad copy sized to each platform's character limits. It covers headlines, descriptions, primary text and full ad variations, and it can analyse existing ad performance to build new variations on themes that already work.
The skill runs in four modes: generating from scratch, iterating from performance data, producing scaled static batches from a grounded inputs folder, and running a creative strategy loop that plans which ads to make and reviews them monthly. It also includes reference guides for video, static and iMessage ad formats, hook writing and a monthly creative roadmap.
- Generate from scratch using product context, audience insights and platform practice
- Iterate from CSV, pasted or API performance data (CTR, conversion rate, ROAS)
- Produce grounded static batches traced to real winning ads, reviews and comments
- Plan a creative roadmap and monthly retro
Install the Ad Creative skill
Download the ZIP for the skill from the directory page and unzip it. For a personal install, place the unzipped skill folder in ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, place it in that project's .claude/skills/ folder instead, so it only loads when you work in that project.
If you use the Claude apps, you can upload the skill instead. Open Settings, go to Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the ZIP there.
- Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/
- Project install: .claude/skills/ inside your project folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills
~/.claude/skills/Trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need a special command. The skill loads when your request matches its description, so ask for ad work the way you would ask a colleague. The description lists many trigger phrases, including 'ad copy variations', 'generate headlines', 'RSA headlines', 'Facebook ad copy', 'Google ad headlines', 'LinkedIn ad text', 'creative testing' and 'hook writing'.
The skill asks for context it does not have. It covers platform and format, product and offer, audience and awareness stage, performance data if you are iterating, and constraints such as brand voice, compliance and mandatory disclaimers.
- Write me some Google RSA headlines for a free trial of my scheduling app
- Give me 10 Facebook ad primary text options for a bookkeeping tool aimed at freelancers
- Here is last month's CTR and ROAS export. Build new variations on the winning angles
- Draft LinkedIn intro text and headlines for a webinar on payroll compliance
Check copy against platform limits
The skill checks every piece of copy against platform limits before delivering it, because platforms reject or truncate creative that is too long. Google Responsive Search Ads allow headlines of 30 characters (up to 15) and descriptions of 90 characters (up to 4). Meta primary text shows 125 characters before it is cut off, with up to 2,200 allowed, so the hook goes at the front. LinkedIn recommends 150 characters of intro text (600 maximum) and 70 characters of headline (200 maximum).
For Google RSAs, the skill asks that headlines make sense in any combination, that at least one headline is keyword-focused, benefit-focused and a call to action, and that headlines are pinned only when necessary.
- Google headline: 30 characters, up to 15
- Google description: 90 characters, up to 4
- Meta primary text: 125 visible characters, up to 2,200
- LinkedIn intro: 150 recommended, 600 maximum
Use scaled batches with a grounded inputs folder
For larger batches, such as 50 concepts at a time, the skill expects an inputs folder. It should hold 10 to 20 screenshots of your highest-performing ads from the last 90 days in a winning-ads folder, 50 to 100 customer reviews as .md or .txt files in a reviews folder, and top ad comments in a comments folder. A brand folder can hold voice notes, hex codes and logos.
The skill is designed to trace each concept to a source and to avoid invented claims, stats or testimonials. If the winning-ads or reviews folder is empty, it stops and asks you to populate it rather than generating ungrounded concepts. Optionally, it reads a product marketing context file at .agents/product-marketing.md.
- inputs/winning-ads/: 10-20 screenshots from the last 90 days
- inputs/reviews/: 50-100 reviews as .md or .txt
- inputs/comments/: objections and praise from existing campaigns
- brand/: voice doc, colours, logo, product assets
Review the output and keep the results
For client or stakeholder approval, the skill can produce a creative review page. It is one self-contained HTML file with inline CSS and JavaScript and no network calls, so you can open it locally or host it on any static host. The page shows concepts as platform mockups and lets reviewers toggle copy variations.
After you run tests, tell the skill the results. It is designed to write test hypotheses that name the metric, the comparison and the expected direction, and to check its Learnings section so it does not re-propose angles you have already tested.
- Creative review page: assets/creative-review-template.html
- Hypotheses name the metric, comparison and expected direction
- Product marketing context is checked before drafting
What people use it for
- Writing a set of Google Responsive Search Ad headlines and descriptions for a new product page
- Generating Meta primary text and headline variations to test hooks against each other
- Turning a CSV export of ad performance into new variations on the themes that won
- Planning a monthly slate of creative concepts and running a retro on last month's results
- Drafting LinkedIn intro text and headlines for a webinar campaign
Frequently asked questions
Is the Ad Creative skill free?
The skill is released under the MIT licence, as stated on the directory page. Check the licence file in the download for the full terms before you use it commercially.
What do I need to use the Ad Creative skill?
You need an agent that supports skills, such as Claude, with the skill installed. Performance data as CSV, pasted text or API output is optional. For batch mode, you need an inputs folder with winning ads, reviews and comments.
Does the skill run scripts or use the internet?
According to the directory listing, the skill runs no scripts and uses no network access. The creative review page is also self-contained, with no network calls.
Where do I install the Ad Creative skill?
Unzip the downloaded ZIP into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, upload the ZIP under Settings, then Capabilities, then Skills.
Can the skill handle campaign strategy and targeting?
No. The skill says campaign strategy, targeting and budget decisions belong to a different skill called ads. Its output may not reflect your account structure, so pair it with your own judgement on those decisions.
Why does the skill refuse to generate batches?
In batch mode, the skill is designed to work only from real winning ads, reviews and comments. If those folders are empty, it asks you to add them rather than inventing claims or testimonials.

Our verdict
The Ad Creative skill suits marketers running paid campaigns on Google, Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok who need many copy variations quickly, and teams that want to iterate on performance data. It is a weaker fit for regulated industries without a human compliance review, since generated claims can still be wrong, and for brands without real customer reviews or winning ads, because the skill is built to refuse ungrounded batches.
