What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent a careful, multi-step routine for installing the same Xcode build on several Macs. The agent inventories which machines are reachable, verifies each downloaded Xcode archive's Apple signature and build number, transfers and installs it into fixed /Applications slots, and runs a quick command-line check before discarding the old copy. It also audits and cleans up unused iOS simulator runtimes, but only using Apple's own outdated/unusable classifications, and it blocks repairs while a simulator is booted.
Great for
- Mac developers or small teams who maintain several Macs and need matching Xcode versions on each
- Maintainers of a personal or team Mac fleet who want repeatable, rollback-safe Xcode installs
Skip it if
- Single-Mac users who just want to install Xcode from the App Store; the routine is heavy and assumes SSH, Tailscale and a fleet layout
- Environments where agents must not run shell commands or touch /Applications, since the procedure runs scripts, deletes apps and may use sudo
Try asking
- “Sync Xcode 26.6 from my downloaded .xip to all my Macs, skipping any that are on macOS 27”
- “Audit the simulator runtimes on my fleet with the hygiene script and report drift without repairing”
- “Check which of my Macs have which Xcode builds selected and list any unreachable hosts”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Run the inventory and simulator audit first in read-only mode and review the output before asking for any install or --repair action.
- Confirm the host identity and that no Xcode work is in progress before allowing repairs or replacements, as the skill itself requires.
- Keep the rollback copies until the smoke gate passes; the skill is designed to retain them on failure.
