What it does

This is a meta-skill: an instruction file that tells an AI agent to look for and invoke other skills before it starts any task, including before asking clarifying questions. It sets rules for choosing which skill comes first (process skills such as brainstorming or debugging before implementation skills), and it includes a table of common rationalizations the agent should resist. It also points the agent to reference files with notes for specific tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Copilot CLI, and it describes four Chinese-language skills that load only when the user explicitly asks for them.

Great for

  • Developers who already use a set of agent skills and want the agent to consistently apply them
  • Teams using superpowers-zh or similar skill collections who want a shared starting rule
  • People setting up a new agent environment who want a default workflow

Skip it if

  • Users who want a single specific capability, since this file only governs how other skills are chosen, and it is less useful alone (it can make the agent invoke skills more often than needed, adding delay)
  • Anyone expecting this skill to run code or fetch data; it is text instructions only and no scripts are included in the listed files

Try asking

  • “Start a new coding session where the agent should check for relevant skills before answering”
  • “Ask for a feature build and have the agent brainstorm first, then implement using the right skill”
  • “Ask the agent to report a bug and have it apply the systematic debugging skill before changing code”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Using SuperpowersInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 10 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    using-superpowers.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip using-superpowers.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip using-superpowers.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Install alongside the skills it references, otherwise its routing rules have nothing to point to
  • Read the platform reference file for your runtime (for example claude-code-tools.md) so tool names map correctly
  • Explicitly tell the agent to skip the workflow when you want a quick answer, since the file says the user can override it
