What it does
When an AI agent that uses functions or tools is not calling a tool, sends wrong arguments, or loops forever, this skill makes the agent walk you through a structured diagnosis and a five-step schema repair instead of guessing. It asks which symptom you have, checks the tool descriptions, parameter types, required fields and control flow, and points to reference notes and example starters. It is designed to coach you rather than write the whole program for you.
Great for
- Developers building a tool-calling or ReAct-style agent who see the model ignore their tools
- Learners who want to understand how function schemas should be designed
- Teams comparing Anthropic and OpenAI-compatible tool-calling formats
Skip it if
- Framework-specific questions (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, Pydantic AI), which the skill itself says to route elsewhere
- Production monitoring, observability or cost tracking, which is out of scope
- Non-developers without an agent project to debug, since the guidance assumes code and API responses
Try asking
- “My agent answers in plain text and never calls my get_weather tool. Help me debug it.”
- “The model passes unit as 'C' and 'Celsius' inconsistently. How should I redesign the parameter schema?”
- “My ReAct loop keeps calling the same tool forever. Walk me through the likely causes.”
- “I'm starting a new tool from scratch. Guide me through the five-step schema design.”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- State your exact symptom (no call, wrong arguments, or loop) so the skill can skip its triage question.
- Test with a small fixed fixture and mock responses before connecting a real model, as the skill recommends.
- Use the linked starter templates to write your own TOOLS_SPEC rather than asking for a complete program.
