What it does

This skill sets up a Chinese web-fiction writing toolkit inside your book project. When you ask it to prepare a writing project, it detects which AI tool you are using (such as Claude Code, Codex, or others), copies the toolkit's skills, helper agents, hooks and instruction files into your project folder, and then checks that the install worked. It keeps your existing settings and manuscripts and only refreshes the toolkit's own files.

Great for

  • Authors starting a new long-form web novel who want a ready-made writing environment
  • Users of Claude Code, Codex or similar agents who want the toolkit wired into a project folder
  • Teams maintaining several book projects that need the same setup updated consistently

Skip it if

  • Users who only want to write a single short story and do not need project infrastructure, since it installs many files and folders
  • Anyone unwilling to let an installer copy files and merge settings into their project, because it modifies configuration files such as hooks and instruction files
  • Environments where the reference bundle is incomplete or the tool is not one of the supported hosts; the skill stops rather than guessing

Step-by-step guide: how to use Story Setup for Web NovelsInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 15 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    story-setup.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip story-setup.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip story-setup.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the check mode first to see what is already deployed before asking for a fresh install.
  • Keep your book folder as the project root so the toolkit lands where you expect; the skill reports where it installed everything.
  • Back up any custom hooks or settings files before re-deploying, as merges touch shared configuration files.
