What it does

This skill gives an AI agent guidance for writing and reviewing OpenRig specs: declarative files that describe a repeatable team of AI agents (topology), their roles, workflows and operating modes, so the setup does not have to be re-explained in chat. It tells the agent to make specs portable across machines, to declare workflow and mode as well as structure, and to treat structural validation as insufficient without a real runtime check. It is guidance only and does not itself run commands or contact the network.

Great for

  • Developers building or sharing OpenRig rig and agent configurations
  • Teams who want reusable, portable multi-agent setups instead of one-off startup prompts
  • Anyone auditing an OpenRig spec for portability before sharing it

Skip it if

  • One-off rig setups that will not be reused, since the skill itself says manual assembly is fine there
  • Users who are not running OpenRig, because the guidance depends on OpenRig's spec formats and commands
  • Packaging a finished topology for sharing, which the skill says belongs to a different skill (rig-bundles-and-shareable-artifacts)

Try asking

  • “Write a rig.yaml spec for a three-agent review team that another user can instantiate”
  • “Audit my agent.yaml for hard-coded local paths that would break on another machine”
  • “Help me design a workflow spec and operating mode to go with this topology”
  • “Explain the difference between a spec, a bundle and an extension in my project”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    specification-system.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip specification-system.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip specification-system.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask the agent to validate and also to actually instantiate the spec on a clean OpenRig environment, since the skill says validation alone is not proof
  • Keep specs free of local absolute paths and hidden startup fragments so they work on another host
  • Check the referenced OpenRig reference docs (rig-spec.md, agent-spec.md), which were not included in this file, before relying on exact field names
