What it does
This skill guides an AI agent through installing OpenRig, a local tool that runs several coding agents (such as Claude Code and Codex) side by side in tmux, with a background daemon that keeps their tasks and messages across restarts. Once installed, the agent asks which project you want worked on, starts OpenRig and its operator agent, and hands your goal to that operator so it can set up a team. It also explains every change it makes to your machine and asks for your approval before starting a team or installing anything.
Great for
- Developers who already use Claude Code or Codex and want several agents coordinating on one project
- People who want a persistent multi-agent team that survives restarts and can be reattached later
Skip it if
- Anyone who doesn't want changes to their Codex or Claude Code config, shell tmux config, or workspace trust settings, since setup writes these to shared home-folder files and has no project-only mode (risk: changes reach other sessions using the same Codex home)
- Users who want only a single agent for a small task, since this installs and runs a whole multi-agent environment
Try asking
- “Install OpenRig and set up a team of agents to build a feature in my repository”
- “Bring my stopped OpenRig team back and reattach to my agents”
- “Start a team on this project and share it with my other session”
- “Open the OpenRig TUI and operator so I can see what my agents are doing”

Add it to your agent
Claude Code (all projects)
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip rigs.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)
mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip rigs.zip -d .claude/skills/Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Tell the agent up front which repository you want the team to work on, and any scope limits such as keeping changes inside the project.
- Read the list of files OpenRig will write (Codex config, ~/.claude.json, skills folders, AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md) before approving setup, and decide whether that is acceptable.
- Use rig context get help or the linked getting-started docs if something fails during installation.
