What it does

When you ask the agent to clone or reverse-engineer an app, it works through public pages, help docs, app store listings, screenshots and your own account to write a structured map of the app: its screens, user flows, reusable UI parts, a guessed data model, and a feature checklist. It is the first step of a larger pack that rebuilds an app's functionality, and it also flags what cannot or should not be copied, such as licensed content or the company's data.

Great for

  • Product builders who want a structured plan before cloning a feature set
  • Designers and students studying how a known app's flows and screens are organised
  • Founders scoping a niche version of an existing app

Skip it if

  • Copying another company's source code or proprietary content, which the skill explicitly refuses to do (it works from functionality and UX patterns only)
  • Accessing someone else's account or bypassing logins or paywalls, which the skill says it will not do
  • Getting a perfect or fully-working clone from one run, since the output is a plan and sizing rather than working software

Try asking

  • “Clone this app: https://example.com and map out its core flow”
  • “Reverse engineer Calendly's booking flow and list its screens”
  • “What screens does this iOS app have? Here is the App Store link”
  • “I want to build my own version of this project tool, map the features first”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Replica ReconInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    replica-recon.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip replica-recon.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip replica-recon.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Scope narrowly, for example one core loop like bookings or sharing, rather than 'all of an app', since the skill itself recommends this.
  • Provide your own account only if you have the right to use it, and check the product's terms; the skill will flag restrictive terms but you should confirm.
  • Review the generated recon.md and features.csv before feeding them to the next pack steps, because the data model is marked as inferred and may contain guesses.
