What it does
Once installed, the agent knows how to work with an Obsidian vault on your computer, which is simply a folder of Markdown notes. It can search notes, read backlinks and properties, create or append to notes, move notes so links update, and inspect Bases, Canvas files and plugins, preferring the official Obsidian command line tool where possible. It is told to avoid bulk rewrites, avoid deleting notes, and leave Obsidian settings alone unless asked.
Great for
- People who keep their notes in Obsidian and want an assistant to find or file information in them
- Developers or power users who already run the Obsidian CLI and want scripted vault access
- Anyone who wants daily-note appends or note reorganisation handled with link preservation
Skip it if
- Users without Obsidian or without a local vault at ~/obsidian, since paths and commands are hard-coded to that location
- Cloud-only or mobile-only vault setups, because the skill depends on local files and a local CLI
- Bulk or unattended edits of important notes, since the skill itself warns against bulk rewrites and a wrong edit could damage content
Try asking
- “Search my Obsidian vault for notes mentioning OpenClaw and summarise the key points”
- “Append a follow-up item to today's daily note”
- “Move Notes/Draft.md to Archive and make sure links are updated”
- “Show the backlinks and properties for my Projects note”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name the vault or path explicitly if you have more than one vault, so the agent does not guess
- Keep a backup or version history of your vault before letting the agent make edits
- Ask the agent to show a diff before it changes existing notes
