What it does
When installed, the agent approaches changes to databases, APIs, protocols, configuration, or dependencies more carefully. Before editing, it maps who reads and writes the data, the compatibility window, and who owns each part. It then works in stages (expand, migrate, verify, contract), defines both a forward and a rollback path, keeps old and new versions working side by side, and avoids deleting data unless that step is explicitly approved. It stops after the requested stage instead of running later destructive steps on its own.
Great for
- Engineers changing a database schema or data format on a live system
- Teams rolling out an API or protocol change where old and new clients overlap
- Developers who need a rollback plan and proof that old and new paths still work
Skip it if
- Quick one-off scripts or throwaway projects, where the staged process adds unnecessary overhead
- Destructive operations that have not been separately approved, since the skill is designed to pause before contraction steps but any production change still needs human review
Try asking
- “Plan an expand-and-contract migration to rename a column in our users table without downtime”
- “Add a new required field to our public REST API while keeping v1 clients working”
- “Migrate our config file format from YAML to TOML with a rollback path”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Give the agent the compatibility window and the list of known readers and writers up front so it can map them before editing.
- Ask for one stage at a time (for example, expand only) and review results before requesting the contract step.
- Have the agent show its verification evidence for old and new paths before accepting the migration as complete.
