What it does

When installed, the agent checks your local AWS configuration before doing any AWS work: which profile is active, which region is set, and which account and identity it is using. It reports this back in a line or two and warns you if your login is SSO, since those accounts often cannot create IAM roles, which is a common cause of failed deployments. It is meant to stop the agent guessing your region or account.

Great for

  • Developers deploying machine learning models or other workloads to AWS SageMaker
  • People who use AWS SSO or company-managed logins and hit permission errors mid-deployment
  • Anyone who wants the agent to use their existing AWS profile instead of asking repeated setup questions

Skip it if

  • Users who do not have an AWS account or the AWS CLI installed, since the skill only reads what already exists locally
  • Shared or sensitive environments where you do not want an agent running AWS CLI identity checks against your account, because it runs aws sts get-caller-identity and aws configure list

Try asking

  • “Deploy this model to SageMaker in my AWS account”
  • “Use my profile dev-sandbox and tell me which region I'm working in”
  • “Set up an endpoint on AWS, but first check what account I'm logged into”
Step-by-step guide: how to use AWS Context DiscoveryInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    hf-cloud-aws-context-discovery.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip hf-cloud-aws-context-discovery.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip hf-cloud-aws-context-discovery.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Set AWS_PROFILE or name the profile in your prompt so the agent does not fall back to default.
  • If the agent reports an SSO principal, ask your AWS administrator for an existing SageMaker execution role before starting the deployment.
  • Review the aws commands the agent runs; they only read identity and configuration, but they do contact AWS.
