What it does
This is a set of written guidelines that teaches an AI agent how to act like a GraphQL backend architect. Once installed, when you ask for help with a GraphQL API, the agent follows best practices for schema design, avoiding slow database queries (such as the N+1 problem using DataLoader), real-time subscriptions over WebSocket, cursor-based pagination, structured error responses, and query complexity limits. It only changes the advice and code the agent writes; it does not connect to any server or run anything by itself.
Great for
- Backend developers building or reviewing a GraphQL API
- Teams designing a schema that will be consumed by several client apps
- Developers who want pagination, error handling and performance patterns applied consistently
Skip it if
- Non-programmers or people who only query an existing GraphQL API (the skill covers server-side design, not client usage)
- Projects that use REST or gRPC exclusively, where the advice would not apply
- Anyone expecting the skill to audit a live system: it contains guidance only and reads no project files
Try asking
- “Design a GraphQL schema for an e-commerce catalog with products, orders and reviews”
- “Review my resolvers for N+1 query problems and suggest DataLoader usage”
- “Add cursor-based pagination following the Relay connection spec to my users query”
- “Set up a graphql-ws subscription for live order status updates”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Name your framework and language (for example Apollo Server in Node.js or Strawberry in Python) so the agent gives concrete code rather than generic advice
- Share your existing schema or resolver file so the agent can check it against the listed principles
- Ask for a complexity-limit or depth-limit setup explicitly, since the skill recommends it but does not implement it for you
