What it does

When you type 'triage' inside a GitHub project, the agent pulls the open issues and pull requests using the GitHub CLI and writes a maintainer-style review: each item with its link, what it is about, why it matters, risk, test status, blockers and a suggested next step. It sorts items into autonomous candidates, items needing the owner's decision, and items to defer, close or merge into another. The skill also describes a more autonomous mode for working through safe items one at a time, with a rule to stop and ask when a checkout is not clean or on main.

Great for

  • Maintainers of busy GitHub repositories who want a prioritised queue review
  • Developers who want an agent to pre-screen issues and PRs before deciding what to work on
  • Teams that already use the GitHub CLI (gh) and want consistent triage output

Skip it if

  • Non-GitHub projects, since the workflow is built around GitHub issues, PRs and the gh tool
  • Anyone wanting unattended changes to a repository: the skill includes autonomous-work instructions that can land code, so it should be used with review and branch protection in place
  • Users without the owner's context: it refers to a specific maintainer's workflow (Peter, RepoBar, openclaw owners) and will need editing to fit another team

Try asking

  • “triage”
  • “triage this repo and show me the autonomous candidates with URLs”
  • “Give me a broad triage of the steipete and openclaw queues”
  • “Check whether the open PRs in this repo have passing CI and what blocks them”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    github-project-triage.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip github-project-triage.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip github-project-triage.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run triage from inside the repository you care about so the skill scopes to that project rather than broad owner queues.
  • Add a VISION.md to the repo so the agent judges product fit against your stated direction.
  • Review the autonomous candidate list yourself before asking the agent to do autonomous work; the skill's own rules say selection is not permission to start.
