What it does

Once installed, the agent can create new images (photos, illustrations, concept art, logos, posters) from a text description and edit or combine existing images using reference files. It sends the request to OpenRouter, which routes it to one of several AI image models, saves the returned picture to a file, and tells the agent to open and check the result. It also lists available models and their options, and can preview a request without generating anything.

Great for

  • Designers or marketers who need quick visual assets, mockups or concept art
  • Creators who want to edit or composite an existing photo with a text instruction
  • Developers who want to add image generation to an automated workflow

Skip it if

  • Technical diagrams such as flowcharts, circuit or pathway diagrams: the skill itself directs these to the separate scientific-schematics skill, which is better suited.
  • Work needing guaranteed exact text, precise parameters or identical reproductions, since providers may ignore or normalise options and seeds are not guaranteed across versions.
  • Anyone without an OpenRouter account who expects free use: each generation is billed per request against the user's key.

Try asking

  • “Generate a watercolour illustration of a lab notebook on a wooden desk for a blog post”
  • “Edit photo.jpg so the sky becomes purple and save it as edited.png”
  • “Create a flat vector SVG logo mark using a Recraft vector model”
  • “List all image models that support seeded generation, then generate a poster with one of them”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Generate ImageInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    generate-image.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip generate-image.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip generate-image.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Run the skill from its own directory, since input and output paths resolve from the working directory.
  • Use --list-models or --model-info before generating to confirm a model supports the options you need, and use --dry-run to check the request without paying.
  • Always open and inspect the generated file: composition, aspect ratio and text are often wrong without warning.
