What it does

Once installed, the agent knows a structured way to read US public company filings from the SEC's EDGAR database. It can pull out key financials such as revenue trends, margins, cash flow and debt, summarise management's discussion and changes in risk factors, and flag notable events like executive departures, restatements, or insider buying and selling. It explains what each filing type signals, but it is a framework for interpretation rather than a source of verified investment advice.

Great for

  • Investors or analysts who want a first-pass read of a company's annual or quarterly filings
  • Students learning how to interpret financial statements and SEC disclosures
  • Developers building research workflows on top of the Vibe-Trading agent

Skip it if

  • Making trading decisions on its own: the 'signals' are simplified heuristics (e.g. word counts, fixed rules) and not validated predictive models
  • Non-US companies, since the skill covers US public company filings only
  • Legal or regulatory compliance decisions, where the agent's reading of a filing could be incomplete or wrong and a qualified professional should review the original document

Try asking

  • “Analyse Apple's latest 10-K and summarise revenue drivers, margin trends and new risk factors”
  • “Compare Microsoft's last two 10-Qs and tell me whether the outlook language has become more cautious”
  • “Check recent 8-K filings for NVIDIA and flag any executive changes or material events”
  • “Pull insider Form 4 transactions for a ticker and summarise whether insiders have been net buyers or sellers”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    edgar-sec-filings.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip edgar-sec-filings.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip edgar-sec-filings.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Name the ticker and filing type and period explicitly (e.g. 'AAPL 10-K for fiscal 2024') so the agent fetches the right document
  • Ask the agent to quote the source passage for any claim, then verify the key numbers against the original filing on sec.gov
  • Treat the heuristic signals (tone word counts, 8-K rules) as prompts for further investigation, not conclusions
