What it does

This skill is a routing guide for an AI agent that works with financial market data. Before the agent backtests a strategy or fetches prices, news, or fundamentals, it reads this file to decide which of many data sources and tools fits the market (A-shares, US, HK, crypto, forex, macro), which API key is needed, and which providers to avoid because they are throttled or likely to block requests. It does not fetch data itself; it tells the agent where to look.

Great for

  • Quant researchers running backtests across several markets who want the agent to choose data sources automatically
  • Analysts who need China A-share, Hong Kong, or US market data and don't know which provider covers what
  • Developers extending the Vibe-Trading backtest platform who need a single reference for registered data sources

Skip it if

  • Anyone expecting trading advice or price predictions; the file only maps data sources and tools, and the data itself may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong
  • Users who need guaranteed uptime for live trading: several sources depend on unofficial endpoints, IP throttling, or a local gateway (futu OpenD, MT5 terminal) that can stop working
  • Users in regions where some listed providers are restricted or unlawful to access; the file itself notes regional network dependencies

Try asking

  • “Backtest the moving-average crossover on Tencent (0700.HK) and BYD (002594.SZ) daily prices for the last three years”
  • “Which tool should I use to get northbound fund flow for A-shares, and do I need an API key?”
  • “Pull the latest SEC 10-K filings and financial statements for Apple”
  • “Get broker research reports and CN macro indicators for the semiconductor sector”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Data Source RouterInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    data-routing.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip data-routing.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip data-routing.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Set the required environment key before asking for key-gated data; the skill tells the agent to report a missing key rather than fail silently, but you should still verify it
  • Let the agent use source auto for backtests unless you need a specific provider; the runner falls back across same-market sources
  • Treat IP-throttled and unofficial sources (eastmoney, sina, yahoo) as best-effort and cross-check important numbers against a second source
