What it does

When installed, the agent knows how to talk to OpenRig instances running on other machines that you have registered. It picks the right transport (SSH or HTTP) from the registry entry, uses explicit host flags for consequential work, and reads failures at the layer that broke. It also avoids treating a successful transport call as proof that a remote agent actually received or acted on a message.

Great for

  • Developers who run OpenRig rigs across several machines, such as a laptop and a test VM
  • Operators who need to send messages or check agent status on a remote OpenRig host
  • Anyone debugging why a cross-host command failed (unreachable host, permission gate, unknown host)

Skip it if

  • Users with only a single local OpenRig setup, since the skill only matters when remote hosts are registered
  • Situations where a remote daemon should be changed or restarted without clear authority, which the skill itself warns against; the skill guides but does not grant that authority
  • Anyone expecting it to set up SSH keys or tokens for them, since it only references existing configuration

Try asking

  • “Send 'check the assigned result' to dev-worker on remote-dev and verify delivery”
  • “Capture the pane output of a seat running on another host”
  • “Check why a host returned ssh-unreachable or permission-gate and what to inspect next”
  • “Add a new HTTP host entry to the registry and run a reachability check”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    cross-host-rig-commands.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cross-host-rig-commands.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cross-host-rig-commands.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Always pass --host explicitly for consequential cross-host operations rather than relying on persisted host selection
  • After a send with --verify, check the destination effect the task needs; do not stop at 'SSH exited zero' or 'HTTP returned successfully'
  • If a write times out, check whether it already took effect before retrying, to avoid duplicates
