What it does
This skill gives an AI agent a detailed playbook for splitting a company network into isolated zones (such as corporate, servers, DMZ, guest, and IoT) using VLANs on managed switches. The agent can draft a VLAN plan and traffic-flow rules, produce switch configuration commands for Cisco-style devices, and apply hardening steps against common VLAN attacks. It also includes a Python script that can connect to a switch over SSH to read and change its VLAN settings.
Great for
- Network engineers planning or documenting a segmentation project
- Security teams preparing for PCI-DSS, HIPAA or SOC 2 network isolation requirements
- Students learning how VLANs, trunks, ACLs and switch hardening fit together
Skip it if
- Production switches without a tested change plan: the commands can disconnect users or break routing if applied incorrectly
- Networks that need true air-gapping: the skill itself says VLANs alone are not enough for that
- Use as the only security control: the skill warns that VLANs must be combined with Layer 3 filtering and switch hardening
Try asking
- “Design a VLAN plan for a 200-person office with corporate, server, guest and IoT zones”
- “Generate Cisco Catalyst commands to create VLANs and set access and trunk ports”
- “Write inter-VLAN ACLs so guest devices cannot reach internal subnets”
- “Create a checklist to harden switches against VLAN hopping, DHCP spoofing and ARP spoofing”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review every generated command and test on a lab switch or maintenance window before applying to production
- Keep the script's SSH credentials out of chat and source control, and use an account with the least privilege needed
- Have the agent first audit the current VLAN and port configuration, then plan changes, to avoid overwriting existing settings
