What it does

This skill gives an AI agent the detailed know-how for cognee's remember() function, which stores data and builds a searchable knowledge graph from it. Once installed, the agent can choose the right input type, route files to the correct loader, pick datasets and tags, decide between an LLM and a local GLiNER model for entity extraction, load ontologies, and estimate token cost with a dry run before spending money.

Great for

  • Developers building a cognee-based memory or knowledge graph who want an agent to load their data correctly
  • Data engineers ingesting CSVs, SQL databases or dlt sources into a knowledge graph
  • Teams wanting a cost estimate or a local no-LLM extraction option before ingesting large sets of documents

Skip it if

  • People who are not using the cognee library; the instructions only apply to cognee's remember() API
  • Ingesting sensitive data without review: URL fetching, git cloning of repositories and database connections send or read data outside the local machine and need deliberate approval
  • Production graph extraction with the open-source GLiNER option, which the file itself calls a demo with lower accuracy

Try asking

  • “Ingest the PDFs and markdown files in ./docs into a dataset called research using cognee”
  • “Estimate the token cost of ingesting this folder before running it, using dry_run”
  • “Load my Postgres orders table into cognee with append write disposition”
  • “Build a graph from these notes using a custom ontology file and strict mode”

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the Apache-2.0 licence and an attribution note.

    cognee-ingestion.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip cognee-ingestion.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip cognee-ingestion.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Set dataset_name for every ingestion so data stays isolated and easy to manage later
  • Run dry_run=True or dry_run="presort" first on large folders to see cost and junk files before ingesting
  • Check that the needed optional extra is installed when a file loads incorrectly, since missing preferred loaders are skipped silently apart from an info log
