What it does

This skill teaches an AI agent to look up how much of your AI subscription quota you have left, for services such as Codex/OpenAI, Claude and Kimi, by running the CodexBar command-line tool on your Mac. Once installed, the agent can report percentage remaining, pace against expected usage, and reset times instead of guessing. It also explains common error messages and how to troubleshoot them.

Great for

  • Developers who juggle several AI coding subscriptions and want to see remaining limits quickly
  • People using multiple Claude or Codex accounts who need to know which account still has capacity
  • Users who already run CodexBar and want an agent to read its output for them

Skip it if

  • Anyone without the CodexBar app and Homebrew CLI installed, since the skill only wraps that tool and does nothing on its own
  • Shared or unmanaged machines, because the tool relies on existing logged-in browser sessions and credential stores, which exposes account access to whatever runs on the machine
  • Tasks needing real-time billing or invoices, since it reports quota status from provider sessions rather than official billing records

Try asking

  • “How much Codex do I have left this week, and when does it reset?”
  • “Check my Claude usage across all my accounts”
  • “Is my Kimi quota running low?”
  • “Why does codexbar usage --all-accounts print nothing?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use CodexBar Usage CheckerInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    codexbar.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip codexbar.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip codexbar.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Ask for a specific provider, such as Codex or Claude, to avoid noise from providers you never configured.
  • If a multi-account check produces no output at all, check the screen for a pending macOS Gatekeeper prompt before debugging the command.
  • Treat a healthy-looking Claude percentage with caution; ask the agent to confirm with claude-swap list --token-status that the refresh token is valid.
