What it does

When installed, the agent checks and writes the words inside a product's interface, such as button labels, error messages, empty states and confirmation dialogs. It first looks for existing copy and terminology so new text matches the product's voice, then flags wording that misleads people or leaves them without a clear next step. It also follows set rules, like starting buttons with a verb, writing errors that say how to fix the problem, and building translatable sentences rather than stitching fragments together.

Great for

  • Product designers and front-end developers reviewing UI text before release
  • Teams wanting consistent terminology across labels, toasts and error messages
  • Writers or localisation-minded developers checking strings for translation risk

Skip it if

  • Reviewing rendering, typography or accessibility markup, which the skill itself hands off to other skills (better-typography, better-accessibility) because it does not cover them
  • Marketing or long-form content, since it is scoped to interface copy only

Try asking

  • “Review the error and confirmation messages in this checkout flow and suggest clearer wording”
  • “Write empty state text for a new projects page that matches our existing tone”
  • “Check our button labels for consistent verbs and capitalization across the settings screens”
  • “Find where we name the same object two different ways in our locale files”

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 3 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    better-writing.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip better-writing.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip better-writing.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Point the agent at your existing locale files or copy guide first so it can match your current vocabulary and tone.
  • Ask for a review of a specific screen or component rather than the whole app to get focused, actionable findings.
  • Treat suggested wording as a draft and check it with a native speaker of each target language before shipping.
