What it does

Once installed, the agent translates text, articles, and documents into a target language (default Simplified Chinese) using a chosen mode: quick, normal (analyze then translate), or refined (translate, review, and polish). It remembers your preferences in an EXTEND.md file, can apply a built-in English-to-Chinese glossary or your own terms, and can split long markdown files into chunks so long documents are handled piece by piece.

Great for

  • Bloggers or readers who want publication-quality Chinese or English versions of articles
  • Translators who want a consistent glossary and style across a long document
  • People who need long markdown documents split into manageable sections before translation

Skip it if

  • Certified or legal translations where a human translator must verify accuracy, since output is unreviewed machine translation
  • Very sensitive confidential documents, because content may be sent to the model and, if fetched, to the internet via URLs

Try asking

  • “Translate this article to Chinese: https://example.com/post”
  • “精翻 this README into Chinese using my glossary”
  • “Quick translate this paragraph to English”
  • “Split this long markdown file into chunks before translating”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Document TranslatorInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 10 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    baoyu-translate.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip baoyu-translate.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip baoyu-translate.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Set up EXTEND.md once with your target language, audience, and glossary so you are not asked each time
  • Use refined mode for important documents and review the output yourself before publishing
  • Provide a custom glossary for names and technical terms to keep them consistent
