What it does
Apify Actors are small cloud programs (usually for web scraping or automation) that take JSON input and return structured JSON output. With this skill installed, the agent follows a set of Apify-specific steps: asking which language you want, scaffolding a project with the official apify CLI, defining input, output and storage schemas, writing the actor code, testing it locally and deploying it. It also adds security guidance such as treating scraped web content as untrusted, keeping tokens out of code and logs, and pinning dependencies.
Great for
- Developers starting a new Apify Actor in JavaScript, TypeScript or Python
- Teams debugging or updating an existing Apify Actor project and its schema files
- Anyone who wants guardrails around tokens, dependency installs and paid cloud runs
Skip it if
- Users who only want to run an existing Actor or read its data; this skill is for building and deploying Actors, not consuming them
- Scraping or deploying against sites or accounts you are not authorised to use, since crawling and pushing code can cost money and break terms of service
- Non-developers without a configured Apify account, because pushing, building and running publish code or start paid work
Try asking
- “Create a new TypeScript Apify Actor that scrapes product prices from a list of URLs”
- “Add an input schema and dataset schema to my existing Apify Actor project”
- “Debug why my Python Actor fails when run locally with apify run”
- “Walk me through deploying my Actor with apify push and what to check first”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Review package names, lifecycle install scripts and lockfile changes before running npm install or pip install, and use npm ci for unchanged lockfiles
- Before running apify push or any cloud run, confirm the target account, Actor name, cost limits and a rollback plan; set crawl bounds such as page counts, concurrency and retries
- Keep APIFY_TOKEN in an environment variable or use apify login interactively, and use a scoped token; never paste it into commands or code
