What it does

Once installed, the agent can take a loose description of an animation, such as 'a list that cascades in' or 'a popover that grows from its button', and return the precise technical term for it, like stagger or origin-aware animation. It answers from a built-in glossary of motion terms grouped by entrances, timing, transforms, transitions and scrolling, and explains close alternatives so you can choose the right one. It does not write or run animation code.

Great for

  • Designers or developers who can describe an effect they see but don't know its name
  • Front-end developers who want the right CSS or animation vocabulary before searching docs or asking for code
  • Teams writing specs or tickets who need consistent motion terminology

Skip it if

  • Generating actual animation code, since the skill only names effects and does not produce implementations
  • Looking up terms outside its glossary, because the agent is told to say when a term is missing rather than invent one

Try asking

  • “What's it called when a popover grows out of the button that opened it?”
  • “The iOS scroll where it resists and snaps back when I pull too far.”
  • “I want a list where each item fades in one after another. What's that effect called?”
  • “Is a crossfade the same as a shared element transition?”
Step-by-step guide: how to use Animation VocabularyInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

Install in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Download the skill

    The ZIP contains the 1 original files, the MIT licence and an attribution note.

    animation-vocabulary.zip
  2. 2

    Add it to your agent

    Claude Code (all projects)

    mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && unzip animation-vocabulary.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/

    Claude Code / Agent SDK (this project only)

    mkdir -p .claude/skills && unzip animation-vocabulary.zip -d .claude/skills/

    Claude apps (web/desktop): Settings → Capabilities → Skills → Upload skill, and choose the ZIP.

  3. 3

    Ask for the task

    No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.

Get better results

  • Describe what you see or feel (springy, slides off, draws itself in) rather than guessing the technical name.
  • Ask for the term only if you want a name; ask follow-up questions to get an explanation or code.
  • If the agent says a term is not in the glossary, treat that as a real gap rather than a confirmed answer.
