What it does
Once installed, the agent knows how to use Wireshark's command-line tool tshark to capture network traffic and examine saved packet files (PCAP). It can filter for suspicious patterns such as unusual DNS domains, beaconing, port scans, cleartext passwords and SMB file access, extract files and URLs, and produce hashed evidence and summary reports. The skill also includes a Python helper script that runs tshark commands on your behalf.
Great for
- Security analysts investigating suspected intrusions on networks they are authorized to monitor
- Network engineers diagnosing retransmissions, fragmentation or DNS failures
- Incident responders who need repeatable tshark commands and evidence-handling steps
Skip it if
- Capturing traffic on networks you do not own or have written authorization to monitor, since interception may be illegal
- Production continuous monitoring, where a SIEM or IDS is the appropriate tool
- Users without packet analysis background, since the output requires expert interpretation to avoid false conclusions
Try asking
- “Analyze capture.pcapng for DNS queries to suspicious TLDs and list the source hosts”
- “Find possible beaconing to 203.0.113.50 and show the connection intervals”
- “Export HTTP objects from this capture and hash them for threat intelligence lookup”
- “Diagnose TCP retransmissions in this trace and summarize likely network causes”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Only run live captures on networks you are authorized to monitor, and record the authority for chain of custody
- Start with narrow capture filters and ring buffers to avoid filling disk on busy links
- Treat tshark output as leads to verify manually, not as conclusive findings
