What it does
This skill teaches an AI agent how to safely run a suspicious program inside Cuckoo Sandbox, an open-source tool that launches the file in a disposable virtual machine and records what it does. The agent then reads the resulting report, covering process trees, suspicious API calls, network traffic, dropped files, registry changes and triggered behavioral signatures, and summarizes them into a classification and indicators of compromise. It is intended for analysts who already have a sample past initial triage.
Great for
- Security analysts who need a consistent behavioral report for many malware samples
- Students learning dynamic malware analysis with Cuckoo
- Teams that want an agent to draft IOC lists and YARA-style signature ideas from sandbox output
Skip it if
- Anyone without a dedicated, network-isolated analysis server: running live malware on a normal machine can infect it or spread to a network
- Known ransomware that may spread via network shares if the sandbox is misconfigured; the skill itself says to verify isolation first
- Non-security users, since setting up Cuckoo, VMs and network simulation requires substantial expertise
Try asking
- “Submit this suspicious file to Cuckoo and summarize its behavior, network calls and dropped files”
- “Parse the Cuckoo JSON report and list suspicious API calls like WriteProcessMemory or CreateRemoteThread”
- “Extract the DNS queries, HTTP requests and C2-like connections from this analysis and list them as IOCs”
- “Map the triggered Cuckoo signatures to MITRE ATT&CK techniques for this sample”

Ask for the task
No special command needed — the agent reads the skill's description and loads it when your request matches. Try one of the prompts above.
Get better results
- Confirm the analysis network is isolated before submitting any sample; the skill's own guidance warns about spreading malware.
- Review the scripts and set CUCKOO_API and CUCKOO_STORAGE environment variables to point to your own sandbox before running them.
- Use the bundled API reference and JSON report paths to ask for specific fields rather than a general summary.
