What it is

No AI Slop is a skill for AI coding agents and chat assistants. You give it a piece of writing and it flags and rewrites 20+ stock patterns that make AI text sound generic, such as 'It's not X. It's Y.' and 'experts agree'. It is meant to keep your own vocabulary and rhythm rather than smoothing everything into one bland style.

  • Run /no-ai-slop on a draft to remove listed slop patterns and see a list of changes
  • Use /no-ai-slop with a question to get every slop pattern it found quoted back to you
  • Review an existing post for throat-clearing openers, colon reveals, and fake-profound endings
  • Generate deliberately bad AI-style text as satire using the README's example prompt

Great for

  • Writers who use AI to edit drafts and want to remove its telltale phrasing
  • Creators and marketers who publish posts and want them to sound less generic
  • People who want to check whether a draft contains common AI slop patterns
  • Users of ChatGPT, Claude Code, or Codex who can install a skill with a single prompt

Not ideal for

  • People who need a tool that determines whether a text was written by AI; the README says the skill does not guess that
  • Anyone who does not use an AI agent or chat tool that supports skills, since the skill is invoked through one
  • Users who need a standalone desktop or web editor; the README does not describe one
Step-by-step guide: how to use No AI SlopInstall, first run, examples, tips and FAQs

How to get it

  1. 1

    Install with a package manager

You'll need: An AI agent that supports skills, such as Claude Code or Codex, or ChatGPT with plugin support · Node.js, needed for the npx install command (version not stated in README)

npx skills add petergyang/no-ai-slop --skill no-ai-slop --global --yes
  2. 2

    Run it

    • Install the skill using the npx command or by pasting the install prompt into your coding agent
    • Paste a draft after the command /no-ai-slop to edit it
    • Ask /no-ai-slop is this slop? followed by your text to see flagged patterns without edits
  3. 3

Get the most out of it

    • Use the detect mode first to see which patterns appear before editing
    • Read the list of changes the skill reports so you can keep the ones that fit your voice
    • Check SKILL.md for the full editing rules and workflow
    • Review eval.md to see the checks the skill runs on its own output

Strengths

  • Lists specific patterns with examples, so the edits are easy to check
  • Aims to preserve personal voice instead of flattening it
  • Simple install that works from a pasted prompt or an npx command

Trade-offs

  • Its effectiveness depends on the underlying AI agent and is not benchmarked in the README
  • The README covers only the pattern list and workflow; it gives no detail on edge-case behavior
  • Some of the pattern list is stylistic judgment, so edits may still need a human decision
