What it is
Rayburst is a desktop app for downloading files from the web, including BitTorrent, magnet links, and streaming media such as HLS and DASH. It is a rebrand of Motrix Next and uses the Aria2 Next fork of aria2 as its download engine. It is built with Tauri 2 and a Rust backend, and offers a browser extension to send downloads to it.
- Download large files over HTTP, HTTPS or SFTP with concurrent connections
- Download a torrent and select only specific files inside it
- Record a live HLS stream or save a DASH video as MP4 or MKV
- Schedule download and upload speed limits by day and time
- Send a link from the browser to the app using Rayburst Connect
Great for
- People who want a free, open-source alternative to a paid download manager
- Users who download torrents and magnet links and want a graphical interface
- Anyone who wants to save HLS or DASH video streams to MP4 or MKV
- Users who want speed limits and schedules for downloads
- People who want to manage downloads from their browser
Not ideal for
- Users who need a portable single-file .exe, since the README says the sidecar engine must sit beside the main executable and the installer is required
- macOS users uncomfortable with running a terminal command, since the app is not code-signed and the README suggests removing the quarantine attribute
- Users who need an officially signed, notarized build, because macOS builds are ad-hoc signed and not notarized and Windows signing is optional
How to get it
- 1
Download the app
Debian / Ubuntu install
sudo dpkg -i Rayburst_x.x.x_amd64.debFedora / RHEL install
sudo rpm -i Rayburst-x.x.x-1.x86_64.rpm - 2
Run it
- Go to the GitHub Releases page and download the installer for your system.
- On Windows, run the setup .exe; on macOS, open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications.
- On macOS, if the app is reported as damaged, run the xattr command from the README FAQ, then open the app.
- Launch Rayburst and add a download link, magnet link or .torrent file.

Get the most out of it
- Install the Rayburst Connect browser extension to send downloads from the browser
- Use per-task and global speed limits with scheduling to control bandwidth
- Enable lightweight mode to close WebViews on minimize-to-tray while downloads continue
- Set proxy options for downloads and updates separately in the network settings
- Use the diagnostics export if you need to report a problem
Downloads
Strengths
- Supports many protocols in one app, including BitTorrent, ED2K and HLS/DASH
- Installers are available for macOS, Windows and Linux, with x64 and ARM64 options
- Open-source under the MIT license with a visible public release history
Trade-offs
- The README says macOS builds are not code-signed, which may trigger system warnings
- Settings, tasks and history are not imported from the previous Motrix Next app, per the README notice
- Some Linux setups may show blank or partly drawn windows, and the README points to a separate troubleshooting page
