How to use the Replica Brand Rebrander agent skill
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The replica-brand skill helps you turn a copied app into your own product. It guides an AI agent through choosing a new name, checking that name for trademark, domain, store and handle conflicts, picking a new colour palette, writing a logo brief and a voice guide, and running a script that finds the original app's name and colours left in your project. It is for founders and developers who cloned an app and need a distinct identity before launch. After this guide you will know how to install the skill, trigger it with plain requests, and run the sweep.
Quick start
- 1Download and unzip the skill. Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into your project's .claude/skills/ folder.
- 2Confirm Python 3 and the project setup. Make sure Python 3 is installed and that your project has a replica/ folder from the related skills, including replica/design/tokens.json.
- 3Ask for a name. Tell the agent something like 'name my app' and share the angle of your product so it can generate and narrow down candidates.
- 4Run the trademark, domain and handle checks. Use the table the agent gives you and run each check yourself in the registries and sites it lists. Record the result for each one rather than assuming the name is free.
- 5Set the palette and logo brief. Ask for a new palette and run contrast.py to confirm zero AA failures, then use the logo brief for a designer or image model.
- 6Run the sweep until clean. Replace the original's name, colours and strings, then run sweep.py with your avoid list and fix every hit until the exit code is 0.
What is an agent skill and what does replica-brand do?
An agent skill is a folder of instructions and sometimes scripts that an AI agent loads when your request matches its description. The replica-brand skill is built for one job: making sure nothing from the original app launches under its identity.
Once it is active, the agent works through six steps: it generates name candidates and narrows them to five, lists the trademark, domain, app store and handle checks you should run, proposes a palette checked for contrast, writes a logo brief, writes a voice guide with rewritten interface strings, and runs a sweep of your files.
- Name: 20 candidates cut to 5, tested for confusing similarity to the original and to other apps in the same category
- Checks: a table of trademark, domain, store and handle checks for you to run yourself
- Palette: a new primary hue from a different colour family than the original, checked with contrast.py
- Logo brief: a written brief for a designer or image model, not a finished logo
- Voice: three voice words, five do and don't pairs, and 10 rewritten strings such as sign up, empty states and error messages
- Sweep: a script that searches file contents and file names for the original's name, domains and colours
Install the replica-brand skill
Download the ZIP from the skill's page on this site. The skill folder contains SKILL.md and sweep.py. You can install it in one of three ways.
For a personal install that works across your projects, unzip it into your user skills folder at ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into that project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- Personal: unzip into ~/.claude/skills/
- Project only: unzip into .claude/skills/ inside your project folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP
Check the requirements before you start
The skill needs Python 3. The sweep script uses only the Python standard library, so you do not need to install extra packages for it. The palette step calls contrast.py from the replica-design skill, so your project needs a replica/ planning folder set up by the related skills, with replica/design/tokens.json in place.
The skill does not search trademark or domain registries for you as verified results. You run those checks yourself in a browser, so you need network access or a browser for that part.
- Python 3
- A project folder with a replica/ planning folder from related skills
- replica-design/contrast.py for palette checks
- Network access or a browser for trademark, domain and handle searches
- Runs scripts: yes. Uses network: no, according to the listing
Trigger the skill with natural requests
You do not need to type a command to start the skill. Ask for what you want in plain language, and the agent will load it when the request matches the skill's description. The source lists these trigger phrases: name my app, rebrand the clone, make it mine, pick a name and colours, logo brief, brand voice, and check for leftovers. It also runs after /replica-entrepreneur, and the source says it always runs before /replica-launch.
- 'Name my app. I cloned a booking tool and want a name that is mine.'
- 'Pick a name and colours for the clone and check the palette for contrast.'
- 'Write a logo brief for this app.'
- 'Write a brand voice and rewrite the sign up and error messages.'
- 'Check for leftovers from the original app.'
Run the sweep to find leftover branding
The sweep script searches your file contents and file names for the original app's name, including inside identifiers such as CalendlyEmbed, and also checks domains and colours. It skips node_modules, build output and the replica/ planning folder. Replace the placeholder name, colours and strings first, then run it.
Exit code 1 means something was found. Fix each item and run the sweep again until it reports clean. The sweep does not check visuals, so also review the favicon, page titles, email templates, Open Graph image and app icon by eye.
- Pass the original's name, company and domains directly with --avoid and --domains, and colours with --colors
- Or keep them in replica/brand.json and run with --config
- Exit 1 means something is left; keep fixing until it is clean
python3 sweep.py . --avoid "Original Name,Its Company" --domains original.com --colors "#006bff"
python3 sweep.py . --config replica/brand.jsonCheck the palette for contrast
Choose a primary brand hue from a different colour family than the original's. If the original is blue, do not pick a nearby blue. Write the new palette into the token roles that replica-design set up, then run the contrast check. The skill's target is zero AA failures. Add the original's brand colours to brand.json so the sweep can catch any that survive.
python3 ../replica-design/contrast.py replica/design/tokens.jsonKnow what the skill output looks like
When the work is done, the skill writes replica/brand.md, which holds the name with its checks, palette, logo brief and voice. It also writes replica/brand.json, updates your tokens, rewrites the strings, and leaves a clean sweep. The skill names /replica-launch as the next step.
- replica/brand.md: name with checks, palette, logo brief and voice
- replica/brand.json: avoid list, domains and colours used by sweep.py, listing.py and replica-deploy
- Updated tokens, rewritten strings and a clean sweep
What people use it for
- Renaming a cloned booking or scheduling app before launch, with a checked list of trademark and domain searches to run
- Auditing a codebase for the original app's name, domains and colours after a fork
- Giving a designer a logo brief with must-not-resemble rules and a check against the original's mark
- Rewriting sign up, empty state, error and confirmation text in a new voice so no original phrasing remains
Frequently asked questions
Is the replica-brand skill free to use?
The source lists its licence as MIT. The skill files are a ZIP you download from this page and unzip into your skills folder. The source does not mention any price.
What do I need to run replica-brand?
You need Python 3 for the sweep script, a project with a replica/ planning folder from the related skills, and access to a browser or network for the trademark, domain and handle searches you run yourself.
Does replica-brand check trademarks for me?
No. The skill lists the checks to run, including USPTO, EUIPO, Canada, WIPO, whois, app stores and social handles. It says these are screening checks only, and a trademark lawyer should do a proper search before you spend money on a name.
Can I use replica-brand to copy an app with its branding intact?
No, the skill is built to remove the original's name and look. The source also warns that using a clone commercially may still raise copyright or other legal issues, and it does not address licensing of the source material.
What does the sweep script actually search?
It searches file contents and file names for the original's name, including inside identifiers, along with domains and colours. It skips node_modules, build output and the replica/ folder. Exit code 1 means something was found.
Why does the sweep report a hit I thought I removed?
The sweep matches names inside identifiers and file names as well as text, so a leftover in a file name or variable can still trigger it. Check the file names and any colour values listed, then run it again until it reports clean.

Our verdict
Use replica-brand if you have cloned an app and want a distinct name, palette, voice and a systematic check that no original branding remains before launch. Pick something else if you need legal clearance for a trademark, if you plan to keep the original's identity, or if you have no right to use the original code.
