How to use the PowerPoint Slide Generator agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The ppt-generation skill is a set of instructions and a Python script that lets an AI agent build a PowerPoint (PPTX) deck from a topic or outline. Each slide is generated as an image, then the images are placed onto blank PowerPoint slides. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to trigger it, and where its limits are.

Quick start

  1. 1Download and unzip. Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ or your project's .claude/skills/ folder.
  2. 2Confirm dependencies. Make sure Python has Pillow (PIL) and python-pptx, and that the image-generation skill is available at /mnt/skills/public/image-generation/.
  3. 3Ask for a presentation. Describe the topic, number of slides, style, and aspect ratio in plain language.
  4. 4Review the plan. The agent writes a presentation-plan.json with a style and slide outline. Check that the titles and key points are what you want.
  5. 5Let images generate in order. The agent generates one image per slide, each referencing the previous slide, so the style stays consistent.
  6. 6Compose the PPTX. The composition script places the images on blank slides and saves presentation.pptx.
  7. 7Check every slide. Read all text and numbers in the images before sharing the file.

What the skill makes the agent do

When you ask for a presentation, the agent first drafts a plan with a title, a visual style, and a slide outline, and saves it as a JSON file. It then generates one image per slide, one slide at a time, feeding each new slide the previous one as a style reference so the deck looks consistent.

Finally, a Python script places those images onto blank PowerPoint slides at 16:9 or 4:3 and saves a .pptx file. Each slide ends up as a single picture rather than editable text boxes.

  • Choose one of eight styles: glassmorphism, dark-premium, gradient-modern, neo-brutalist, 3d-isometric, editorial, minimal-swiss, or keynote.
  • Plan and structure a multi-slide deck with a unified visual style.
  • Output a PPTX file at the path you specify.

Install the ppt-generation skill

Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. The skill folder contains SKILL.md and scripts/generate.py.

For a personal install, unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into that project's .claude/skills/ folder.

You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project install: .claude/skills/ inside your project
  • Apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload the ZIP

Check the requirements before you start

The skill needs Python with the PIL (Pillow) and python-pptx libraries installed. It also depends on a separate image-generation skill at /mnt/skills/public/image-generation/, which includes its own generate.py script. That image-generation skill and any image-model access it needs are not included in these files.

Without the image-generation skill, the instructions cannot produce slide images.

  • Python with Pillow (PIL) and python-pptx
  • The image-generation skill at /mnt/skills/public/image-generation/ with its generate.py script
  • Access to whatever image model that skill requires

Trigger the skill with a natural request

The skill activates when you ask the agent to generate, create, or make a presentation (PPT or PPTX). You do not need to name the skill. Give the topic, roughly how many slides you want, and a style if you have one. The agent will ask for anything it still needs, such as the content outline or aspect ratio.

The skill's own planning step covers the topic, slide count (default 5 to 10), style, aspect ratio, and key points for each slide.

  • "Make a 6-slide pitch deck for my note-taking app in a keynote style."
  • "Create a 4:3 presentation on urban beekeeping, minimal-swiss style, 8 slides."
  • "Turn this outline into a PPTX with a neo-brutalist look: [paste outline]."

How the workflow runs

The agent works in four steps: understand the requirements, write the plan JSON to /mnt/user-data/workspace/, generate slide images strictly in order, and then compose the PPTX. Slides are never generated in parallel, because each one depends on the previous image for style consistency.

The final composition command takes the plan file, the list of slide images in order, and an output path.

  • Plan file: presentation-plan.json with a style field and style_guidelines
  • Slide images: slide-01.jpg, slide-02.jpg and so on, in order
  • Output: presentation.pptx
python /mnt/skills/public/ppt-generation/scripts/generate.py \ --plan-file /mnt/user-data/workspace/presentation-plan.json \ --slide-images /mnt/user-data/outputs/slide-01.jpg /mnt/user-data/outputs/slide-02.jpg /mnt/user-data/outputs/slide-03.jpg \ --output-file /mnt/user-data/outputs/presentation.pptx

Know the limits: image slides and checking facts

Because every slide is a flat image, you cannot edit text, charts, or speaker-friendly content inside PowerPoint. The script only inserts images onto blank layouts. If you need an editable deck, this skill is the wrong tool.

AI-generated images can introduce invented text, numbers, or visual errors. Review every slide by hand before you share the deck, especially for formal or data-critical material such as financial reports.

  • Not suitable for editable text, charts, or speaker notes workflows.
  • Check all text and numbers on each slide manually.
  • Avoid it for financial or other data-critical reports.

Safety notes: scripts and network use

This skill runs scripts and uses the network. The slide images come from the image-generation skill, which sends prompts to an image model, so treat your outline as content that leaves your machine. Review the skill files before installing, and run it in an environment where you are comfortable with script execution and network access.

The skill's instructions tell the agent not to read the Python file and simply call it. If you want to audit the code, read scripts/generate.py yourself before use.

  • Runs scripts/generate.py on your machine.
  • Uses the network through the image-generation skill.
  • Your slide prompts are sent to the image model that skill uses.

What people use it for

  • A founder turning a rough outline into a product-reveal deck in the keynote style.
  • A marketer producing a styled pitch deck using the editorial or dark-premium look.
  • A consultant or designer making a minimal-swiss deck for a client overview where editing is not needed.
  • A team drafting visual concept decks for internal discussion before building an editable version.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the ppt-generation skill?

Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. You can also upload the ZIP in the Claude apps under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

What do I need to run the PowerPoint generation skill?

You need Python with the PIL (Pillow) and python-pptx libraries, plus the image-generation skill at /mnt/skills/public/image-generation/. That image skill and its image-model access are not included in these files.

Can I edit the text in the slides afterwards?

Not as the skill is designed. Each slide is a single image placed on a blank PowerPoint slide, so text and charts cannot be edited inside PowerPoint.

Which presentation styles are available?

The skill offers eight styles: glassmorphism, dark-premium, gradient-modern, neo-brutalist, 3d-isometric, editorial, minimal-swiss, and keynote.

Is the ppt-generation skill free to use?

The skill is released under the MIT licence. The source does not state pricing for the image model, which the image-generation skill requires and which is not included in these files.

Why are my slides not consistent or the text looks wrong?

Each slide uses the previous slide as a reference, which helps consistency, but AI images can still introduce invented text, numbers, or visual errors. Check each slide and regenerate any that are off.

How does this compare with building a deck in PowerPoint?

PowerPoint gives you editable text, charts, and speaker-friendly layouts. This skill produces styled image-only slides quickly from an outline, so it suits visual concept decks better than editable reports.

Our verdict

Use this skill if you need a visually styled deck quickly from an outline and can accept image-based slides that you check by hand. Pick a standard editable PowerPoint workflow if you need editable text, charts, or data-critical material, or if you cannot install the image-generation skill it depends on.
