How to use nuwa-skill: install and ask a thinker's perspective
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
nuwa-skill (女娲.skill) is an Agent Skills package that researches a person's public work and writes a SKILL.md describing how they tend to think, decide and talk. After this guide you will know how to install it in a supported AI agent, how to ask the agent to reason from a named person's perspective, and what the project says it cannot do.
Quick start
- 1Check prerequisites. Confirm you have an Agent Skills-compatible agent runtime and Node.js installed.
- 2Run the install command. Run npx skills add alchaincyf/nuwa-skill in your terminal.
- 3Confirm the runtime. If the installer does not pick the right runtime, add a -a flag such as -a claude-code or -a codex.
- 4Distill a person. Ask your agent to distill a named person, such as Paul Graham, and wait for the skill to be generated.
- 5Invoke the perspective. Ask a question and name the perspective, for example asking Munger to analyse a decision.
- 6Check the stated limits. Read the skill's honesty boundaries, since it reflects public information as of research time.
Check the prerequisites before installing
You need an AI agent runtime that supports Agent Skills, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. The README also lists OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, CodeBuddy, Workbuddy, Gemini CLI and OpenCode among compatible runtimes.
The recommended install command uses npx, so Node.js needs to be installed on your machine.
- An Agent Skills-compatible AI agent runtime (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor)
- Node.js, needed for the npx command shown in the README
Install nuwa-skill with the skills CLI
The README's main method is the universal skills CLI. Run the command below. The installer detects your current runtime and places the skill in the correct directory. If you need to target a specific runtime, the README says to add a flag such as -a claude-code, -a codex, -a cursor or -a openclaw.
You can also ask your agent directly to install the skill from its GitHub URL, which the README lists as a one-line option.
npx skills add alchaincyf/nuwa-skillInstall manually if your runtime needs it
If you prefer not to use the CLI, the README gives manual paths. For example, Claude Code uses ~/.claude/skills/nuwa-skill/, Codex CLI uses ~/.codex/skills/nuwa-skill/ and Cursor uses ~/.cursor/skills/nuwa-skill/. For Hermes Agent, the README says to run tools/install_hermes_skill.py. For other runtimes, clone the repository into that runtime's skills/ directory.
Clone command from the README, where the last argument is the target path for your runtime:
git clone https://github.com/alchaincyf/nuwa-skill <target path for your runtime>Create a perspective skill for a person
Once installed, tell the agent to distill a person by name. The README gives examples such as distilling Paul Graham or building a skill from a named person's viewpoint. Nuwa researches public material, then extracts mental models, decision heuristics, speaking style, values and anti-patterns, and records stated limits.
According to the README, the process runs six parallel collection tracks, filters candidate mental models through three checks, builds the SKILL.md, and tests the result against questions the person has publicly answered.
- Example prompt: 蒸馏一个保罗·格雷厄姆 (distill Paul Graham)
- Example prompt: 造一个张小龙的视角Skill (build a perspective skill for a named person)
Ask a skill a question from that perspective
After a skill exists, invoke it by naming the perspective in your request. The README's examples include asking for an analysis of an investment decision through Munger's viewpoint, asking how Feynman would explain quantum computing, or switching to Naval to think through a choice.
Treat the output as a reasoning aid built from public information, not as statements the real person made or agrees with.
- 用芒格的视角帮我分析这个投资决策 (analyse this investment decision from Munger's view)
- 费曼会怎么解释量子计算? (how would Feynman explain quantum computing?)
- 切换到Naval,我在纠结三件事 (switch to Naval, I am torn between three things)
Use it without automatic loading
If your runtime cannot load Agent Skills, the README's third option is to paste the contents of SKILL.md into a conversation. The README notes that SKILL.md is markdown with YAML frontmatter, so it works as reference material, though it is not automatically loaded.
What people use it for
- Working through a business or investment decision using a known thinker's mental models
- Studying how figures such as Feynman or Munger approach problems
- Building a perspective skill for a person not on the README's list
- Comparing how different personas frame the same question
Frequently asked questions
Is nuwa-skill free to use?
The repository is licensed under MIT, as shown on its page. The README does not list any paid tier, but you still need your own compatible AI agent runtime.
What do I need to install nuwa-skill?
You need an Agent Skills-compatible AI agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, plus Node.js for the npx command in the README. Other runtimes can be used with a manual clone or by pasting SKILL.md.
Which AI tools does nuwa-skill work with?
The README lists Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, CodeBuddy, Workbuddy, Gemini CLI and OpenCode. It says the skills are built on the open Agent Skills protocol.
Does nuwa-skill give me the real person's opinions?
No. The README states that public expression is not the same as real views and that skills are snapshots as of research time. Outputs should not be treated as verified statements from the person.
Is nuwa-skill a software library or app?
No. It is a set of prompt-based skill files. If you want a conventional library or application, this project is not that.
How does nuwa-skill compare with colleague-skill or darwin-skill?
The README describes colleague-skill as the project that showed distilling a person is feasible, and nuwa-skill as aimed at famous thinkers. darwin-skill is described as a tool that optimises existing skills through an evaluation loop, rather than creating new ones.

Our verdict
Use nuwa-skill if you already work in an Agent Skills-compatible agent and want to reason through problems with a named thinker's frameworks, or to build a skill for someone new. Pick something else if you need verified statements from real people, if your tool cannot load skills, or if you want a conventional software library.
