How to use the Media Production agent skill: install and run it
Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data
The Media Production skill gives an AI agent a structured procedure for making images, vector artwork, photo edits, motion graphics, video timelines and narration, and for checking the results before handing them over. This guide explains what the skill changes about the agent's behaviour, how to install it, how to ask for work in plain language, and what you need in place first. Once you finish, you will be able to install the skill, request a short video or image set, and know what to verify before you share the output.
Quick start
- 1Download and unzip the skill. Download the media-production ZIP from this page and unzip it. Confirm the folder contains SKILL.md.
- 2Place it in the skills folder. Move the unzipped folder into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or the project's .claude/skills/ folder for one project. Or upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
- 3Install the required tools. Make sure the Leon media tools, FFmpeg and FFprobe are available. Configure a hosted image provider if you want hosted image generation.
- 4Describe the output. State the goal, duration, aspect ratio and any reference files in your request.
- 5Confirm the provider if asked. If the agent asks which provider to use, choose one you control. It will not switch accounts without asking.
- 6Review the delivered files. Watch the attached video or open the images and check motion, timing, text fit and audio yourself.
What the Media Production skill makes the agent do
Without a skill, an agent will often describe a visual asset instead of producing one. This skill tells the agent which tool to use for each kind of media: hosted image generation for new images, PhotoCraft for layered raster edits, VectorCraft for vector artwork, HyperFrames for motion graphics and animated compositions, FilmCraft for timelines, LightCraft for photo development, and existing speech tools for narration.
The skill also sets a review standard. The agent is expected to preview its work, check video playback and timing, and attach the finished files so you receive them, rather than only describing them.
- Generates images through a hosted provider (when one is configured)
- Edits photos in layers and creates vector artwork with local tools
- Builds motion graphics from HTML, CSS and scene timelines
- Assembles video timelines and narration
- Checks results against your brief before delivery
Install the skill from the ZIP or the Claude apps
Download the skill ZIP from this page and unzip it. You can install it in one of two ways. For a personal setup, unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder. Alternatively, in the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, and upload the skill under Skills.
The package you download contains a SKILL.md file. That file is the instruction set the agent reads. Check that the folder contains SKILL.md after unzipping.
- Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/
- Project install: the project's .claude/skills/ folder
- Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload
~/.claude/skills/Install the tools the skill depends on
The skill does not install its dependencies. It references Leon media tools (media_production, hyperframes, photocraft, vectorcraft, filmcraft and lightcraft), along with FFmpeg and FFprobe for conversion and validation. These must already be available on your system before the agent can use them.
If you want hosted image generation, you also need a configured hosted image generation provider. PhotoCraft's desktop application is optional and is only needed for desktop control.
- Leon media tools referenced in SKILL.md
- FFmpeg and FFprobe
- A configured hosted image provider, if you use hosted image generation
- PhotoCraft desktop application (optional)
Trigger the skill with a natural request
You do not need special syntax. Describe the output you want, the duration or aspect ratio if it matters, and any reference material you supply. The skill begins with the desired output, duration, aspect ratio and reference material, so giving those details up front produces better results.
A single image or speech request usually needs only its generation tool. A video request triggers the fuller workflow: composition, scene timing, previews and checks.
- "Make a 15-second vertical title card for our spring sale, using the attached logo and colours."
- "Generate three square product images from this photo, keeping the original file."
- "Create a short motion graphic with animated text and narration for this announcement."
Review the output and the safety notes
The skill runs scripts and uses the network. Hosted image generation sends your prompt to a provider, and the agent uses the conversation's active provider by default. If the system asks you to choose a provider, the skill says the agent must ask you rather than switch accounts silently. Only use a provider account you control.
The skill is clear that passing automated checks does not prove a video is ready to share. Watch the delivered video yourself before publishing. If the agent reports that playback review was unavailable, it should name the property it could not verify. Treat that as unverified until you check it.
- Confirm which provider is used before generating images
- Keep original files; the skill preserves originals and works on copies
- Watch the final video for motion, pacing and audio before sharing
- Do not rely on automated checks alone for high-stakes delivery
What people use it for
- Short social clips with animated title cards built from a written brief
- Image sets generated from one reference photo, with originals kept intact
- Simple motion graphics with text, shapes and narration
- Vector artwork produced with VectorCraft for logos or icons
- Layered photo retouching with PhotoCraft
Frequently asked questions
How do I install the media-production agent skill?
Download the ZIP from this page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.
What are the requirements for the media production skill?
You need the Leon media tools referenced in SKILL.md (media_production, hyperframes, photocraft, vectorcraft, filmcraft and lightcraft), plus FFmpeg and FFprobe. Hosted image generation also requires a configured provider. The skill does not install these for you.
Is the media-production skill free?
This page does not state pricing or licence terms beyond the item's licence, which is MIT. Check the repository licence for details. Any hosted image provider you use may charge under its own account terms.
Does the skill need an internet connection?
Yes. The skill is listed as using the network, and hosted image generation calls a provider. Local tools such as FFmpeg and the Leon tools run without a provider, but the source does not list every offline case.
Why won't the agent generate with a different model?
The skill tells the agent to use the default provider and not to pick an older model from memory or switch accounts silently. If several providers are available, it asks you to choose one.
What should I do if video playback review fails?
The skill says a disconnected browser or failed window capture does not prove a media defect. The agent should reconnect once or try one other supported playback method. If review is still unavailable, it should deliver the outputs and state which property is unverified, so you should watch the video yourself.

Our verdict
Use this skill if you want an agent to produce images, simple motion graphics or short videos from a brief, and you already run or can install FFmpeg and the Leon media tools. Pick a different tool if you want a self-contained app with no setup, or if you need final video delivery without your own review.
