How to use the Lemo-Opuscar Film Maker agent skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

Lemo-Opuscar is an agent skill that lets an AI agent direct and produce a short film made entirely in code, in one of the library's named styles such as Impasto Oil Painting, Watercolor Brush, Ukiyo-e, Satellite Briefing or Exploded Teardown. This guide is for readers who have never used an agent skill: it explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to ask for a film, and what it needs on your computer. By the end you will be able to install the skill, make a first request and know where the finished MP4 ends up.

Quick start

  1. 1Download and unzip. Download the ZIP from the directory page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ or a project's .claude/skills/ folder.
  2. 2Or upload in the apps. In the Claude apps, open Settings → Capabilities → Skills and upload the skill.
  3. 3Check system tools. Make sure Node.js, ffmpeg and Python 3.11 or newer are installed, since the agent does not install them for you.
  4. 4Make a request. Describe the film, its topic and its use, and name a style if you have one.
  5. 5Answer the questions. The agent asks one round of questions, including whether you want online Chinese narration and approval of large downloads.
  6. 6Wait for the render. The agent sets up the library, installs packages, plans the film and renders it into your project folder.
  7. 7Open the MP4. Find the project folder the agent reports and open the finished film.

What the Lemo-Opuscar skill makes the agent do

An agent skill is a folder of instructions and tools that an agent such as Claude can load when a request matches it. The lemo-opuscar skill covers short videos, films, promos, explainers and animations in a named style. The agent writes a treatment, draws every frame in code, writes an original score, mixes the sound and renders a finished MP4. The project does not use a video model or stock footage.

The skill also helps you pick a style, create your own style from a blank page, or cut a new film from archive footage and documents. It does not trim, edit or convert video files you already have.

  • Animated explainers and promos in a distinctive visual style
  • Explainers built from real material such as satellite imagery, laser scans, CAD files or archive scans
  • New films cut from archive footage and documents
  • Help choosing a style, or making and saving your own

Install the skill from the download ZIP

Download the ZIP from the directory page and unzip it. You can install the skill for yourself or for one project. For a personal install, unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, unzip it into the project's .claude/skills/ folder.

If you use the Claude apps instead, upload the skill under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

  • Personal install: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project install: .claude/skills/ inside your project folder
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills, then upload

Prepare the setup the skill needs

Before making a film, the agent runs the bundled setup script. It copies the library to a working folder at ~/.lemo-opuscar, so installed packages survive plugin updates. Core tools are installed the first time, which takes a few minutes. The agent installs packages a style needs into your project folder.

System software is not installed by the agent. If Node.js, ffmpeg or Python 3.11 or newer is missing, the agent reports it and you install it yourself.

  • Node.js
  • ffmpeg
  • Python 3.11 or newer
  • Optional speech and music packages are added only when a film needs them
sh "<skill base directory>/scripts/setup.sh"

Ask for a film with a natural request

You do not need special commands. Describe the film you want, name a style if you have one, and say what it is for. If you name no style, the agent can help you choose. If you start the skill without saying what you want, the agent asks what language you prefer and how you would like to begin.

Mention real material when you have it, such as satellite imagery, laser scans, CAD files or archive footage. The skill will then build the explainer or edit around that material.

  • "Make a 30-second promo for my bakery in Watercolor Brush style."
  • "Make a product teardown of this CAD file in Exploded Teardown style."
  • "Which film styles are there?"
  • "Help me pick a style for a science explainer about tides."

Understand the project folder and output

Each film is saved in a project folder named in lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, created in the folder you started from. Avoid the # and ? characters in the path. The agent tells you where the project is when it finishes.

The agent follows the library's guides to plan the film, write a treatment, produce it and render the result. The deliverables listed in the library's director guide are placed in the project folder.

  • Use lowercase letters, digits and hyphens for the folder name
  • Avoid # and ? in the path
  • The agent reports the final location

Safety notes: scripts, downloads and network

The skill runs scripts and uses the network. Downloads come from npm, PyPI, the Playwright browser, the project's GitHub Releases and Hugging Face, and only what the film needs is fetched. The agent names large downloads in its questions before fetching them.

Optional Chinese narration can use edge-tts, which sends the narration text to Microsoft's speech service. Kokoro's Chinese voices run offline and are the default. The agent offers the online option and uses it only if you agree. Do not send confidential material if you do not want it leaving your computer.

  • Scripts: setup.sh and library-setup.sh are run by the agent
  • Network: package downloads and optional model downloads
  • Optional edge-tts narration sends text to Microsoft's speech service
  • Keep sensitive or confidential material offline

What people use it for

  • A 30-second product promo animated in Impasto Oil Painting style
  • A short product teardown built from a CAD file in Exploded Teardown style
  • A science explainer using satellite imagery in Satellite Briefing style
  • A news-style short cut from archive footage and documents
  • A personal style saved in ~/lemo-my-styles/ and reused for a new film

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the lemo-opuscar skill?

Download the ZIP from the directory page and unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or into a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps, you can instead upload it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

What do I need to run lemo-opuscar?

You need Node.js, ffmpeg and Python 3.11 or newer on your computer. The setup script installs Node packages, a headless browser and Python packages, and optional speech and music packages are added only when needed. Internet access is required for those downloads.

Is lemo-opuscar free?

The project is released under the MIT licence. The source does not state any price, so check the directory page for current terms.

Can lemo-opuscar edit or convert my existing videos?

No. The skill explicitly excludes plain editing, trimming or converting your existing video files. It is for making new films in code, and for cutting new films from archive footage and documents.

Is my material sent to the cloud?

Your files are not sent elsewhere by the skill itself, but optional Chinese narration through edge-tts sends the narration text to Microsoft's speech service. The default Kokoro voices run offline, and the agent uses the online option only if you agree.

Why is the first setup slow?

The core tools and packages are downloaded and installed the first time, which takes a few minutes. Extra speech or music packages add more downloads, so the agent asks before fetching large files.

Our verdict

Lemo-Opuscar suits creators, marketers and educators who want an animated explainer or promo in a distinctive style without hand-animating it, and developers curious about programmatic video. It is a poor fit if you only need to trim or convert an existing video, cannot tolerate installing many packages and large downloads, or must keep confidential material fully offline.
