How to use the hps-y2k-chrome KPI decision brief skill

Updated · written with AI from the project's own documentation and checked against our catalogue data

The KPI Decision Brief Deck skill (hps-y2k-chrome) lets an AI agent build a single self-contained HTML slide deck about KPIs, such as activation and retention drivers, what is working, and the one metric to move next. It is written for executives like CROs and RevOps leads. This guide explains what the skill does, how to install it, how to trigger it with plain requests, and what to check before you present the result.

Quick start

  1. 1Download the ZIP. Get the hps-y2k-chrome ZIP from the skill page on this site.
  2. 2Unzip the skill. Extract the archive so you have a hps-y2k-chrome folder containing SKILL.md, example.html and open-design.json.
  3. 3Place the folder. Move it to ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use or to .claude/skills/ in a project. Alternatively, upload it under Settings, Capabilities, Skills in the Claude apps.
  4. 4Make a request. Ask for a KPI decision brief in plain language, naming the audience, the decision and the subject.
  5. 5Answer the setup questions. The agent asks for missing essentials such as audience, decision target, source numbers and deadline. Provide them so it can plan the slides.
  6. 6Check and present. Open the HTML file in a browser, verify every number against your source data, and then present using the keyboard controls.

What an agent skill is and what this one does

An agent skill is a folder of instructions and files that an AI agent can load when a task matches it. This skill is a deck plugin: when it is active, the agent produces a KPI review deck as one HTML file rather than a PowerPoint or PDF.

The agent starts from a provided example file, example.html, and keeps its silver, frosted-glass visual style while replacing only the content. Before writing slides, it asks for missing essentials first: audience, decision target, source numbers and deadline.

  • Output: a single self-contained HTML file with inline styles and script
  • Design: silver-metal background, frosted-glass cards, chrome-style headings
  • Slides: presented as a horizontal strip you move through with the keyboard
  • Speaker notes: one hidden notes block per slide
  • Charts: built from CSS and inline SVG, not external chart libraries

Install the skill from ZIP or the Claude apps

Download the ZIP from the skill page on this site and unzip it. Then place the resulting folder in one of these locations:

For a personal install across projects, put it in ~/.claude/skills/. For a single project, put it in that project's .claude/skills/ folder. Alternatively, in the Claude apps, open Settings, go to Capabilities, then Skills, and upload the skill there.

  • Personal: ~/.claude/skills/
  • Project only: .claude/skills/ inside your project
  • Claude apps: Settings → Capabilities → Skills → upload
~/.claude/skills/hps-y2k-chrome/

Check the files in the skill folder

The skill ships three files. SKILL.md holds the instructions the agent follows. example.html is the seed deck the agent copies its design from, and open-design.json holds the skill's metadata. Keep all three together so the agent can find the seed file.

Do not edit the design tokens or the runtime script if you want the output to match the template. The instructions say to replace content only.

  • SKILL.md: instructions and design rules
  • example.html: the seed deck to start from
  • open-design.json: metadata for the skill

Trigger the skill with natural requests

You do not need special syntax. Describe the deck you want in plain language and mention KPIs, metrics, finance or an HTML deck. The skill's trigger words include kpi, finance, metrics, html deck and html slides, along with its full name.

Give the agent the subject, the audience and the decision you need. If you leave things out, the agent should ask for them before it builds the deck.

  • Write a KPI decision brief for our CRO on activation and retention drivers as an HTML deck.
  • Make an html slides review of our metrics for RevOps leadership. Ask me for anything missing first.
  • Use the hps-y2k-chrome skill to build a finance KPI deck on what is working and the one metric to move next.

Example: a full request and the output to expect

A strong request names the audience, the decision and the source numbers. The skill's own example prompt asks for a slide plan, written slides, visual direction, a speaker-ready structure and a critic pass. The critic pass checks that every chart has a decision above it.

Expect the agent to return a single HTML file. Open it in a browser and move through the slides with the arrow keys, Space, PageUp, PageDown, Home and End. You can jump to a slide with a hash such as #/3.

  • Keyboard navigation: arrow keys, Space, PageUp, PageDown, Home, End
  • Deep link: add #/N to the address, where N is the 1-based slide number
  • Each slide is one full screen, with a progress bar and slide counter

Verify numbers before you present

The skill shapes the presentation only. It does not connect to your data sources, so every number must be supplied by you and checked against your source of truth. The agent will not pull figures from your analytics or finance systems.

Treat the output as a draft structure with your numbers placed in it. Confirm each chart and stat against the original data before the review.

  • Supply source numbers yourself in the request
  • Check each chart and stat against your source system
  • Do not use the output for decisions until the figures are verified

What people use it for

  • Preparing a monthly KPI review for a CRO or RevOps leader
  • Summarising activation and retention drivers for an executive meeting
  • Building a consistent glossy HTML slide template for analytics or design work
  • Producing slides where each chart is tied to a stated decision

Frequently asked questions

How do I install the hps-y2k-chrome skill?

Download the ZIP from the skill page on this site and unzip it. Put the folder in ~/.claude/skills/ for personal use, or in a project's .claude/skills/ folder. In the Claude apps you can instead upload it under Settings, Capabilities, Skills.

Is the KPI Decision Brief skill free to use?

The listing is marked Apache-2.0 licensed. The source notes that the underlying theme comes from an MIT-licensed upstream project. Check the licence files in the download for the full terms before reusing the work.

What does the skill require to run?

The listing states that it requires nothing beyond the skill itself. It does not run scripts, but it does use the network, since the design loads Google Fonts.

Can the skill pull numbers from my analytics or CRM?

No. The skill only shapes the presentation and does not connect to data sources. You must supply the numbers and verify them yourself.

Can it output PowerPoint or PDF files?

No. The output is a single HTML file, and the design rules forbid dark mode. If you need PowerPoint or PDF, you will need a different tool.

How is this different from other slide skills?

This skill is locked to one design, the silver frosted-glass y2k-chrome theme, and is built for KPI decision decks. If you need other themes or layouts for different content, look for a general HTML deck skill instead.

Our verdict

Use this skill if you are an analytics or RevOps lead preparing a KPI review for leadership, or a designer who wants a consistent glossy HTML slide template. Pick something else if you need dark mode, PowerPoint or PDF output, or a tool that connects to your live data, since this skill supplies none of those.
